Publication number: 20090126865Abstract: A method for manufacturing a label having a highly reflective printed ink portion. The method includes the steps of printing an ink on a carrier film, laminating the carrier film to a label film so that the ink adheres to the label firm, and removing the carrier film from the label film so that the ink remains on the label film. The exposed surface of the ink—originally formed on the carrier film—is highly reflective, especially when the ink is a metallic ink.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2007Publication date: May 21, 2009Applicant: CCL LABEL, INC.Inventors: Robert E. Baum, Donald P. Klein

Publication number: 20090072527Abstract: The specification discloses an in-mold label (IML) having an improved holographic image. The label includes a base ply and a top ply laminated together. The base ply is an in-mold label material, and the top decorative ply is a different material that is smoother than the base ply material. A holographic material is on the top surface of the top ply, and a holographic image in formed in the holographic material to provide a bright, aesthetically attractive label.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 17, 2007Publication date: March 19, 2009Applicant: CCL LABEL, INC.Inventors: Donald P. Klein, Robert E. Baum

Publication number: 20080202668Abstract: The specification discloses a label assembly having a portion that projects from a container. The label assembly includes a base layer and a projecting or billboard layer. The billboard layer is partially adhered to the base layer leaving marginal portions that are not adhered to the base layer. The base layer is adapted to conform to the container. The billboard layer is relatively stiff, enabling the marginal portions to extend away from the container.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2007Publication date: August 28, 2008Applicant: CCL LABEL, INC.Inventors: John A. MacGregor, Donald P. Klein, Robert E. Baum

Publication number: 20080053608Abstract: A pre-printed rigid thermoformable material suitable for use in manufacturing consumer retail packaging. The material includes two rigid thermoformable layers or films adhered together. Printing is included on either or both of the facing surfaces of the films, so that the printing is protected between the adhered layers.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2006Publication date: March 6, 2008Applicant: CCL LABEL, INC.Inventors: Timothy J. Wald, Robert E. Baum, Donald P. Klein

Patent number: 7001654Abstract: A continuous lenticular label construction including a lenticular assemblies joined with a continuous web so that the lenticules of the assemblies are transverse to the longitudinal axis of the web. A method of manufacture includes: advancing a continuous web of label stock and securing the lenticular assemblies to the continuous web with that lenticules of the lenticular assemblies oriented perpendicular to the length of the continuous web. Optionally, the continuous web defines or includes a window through which the lenticular assemblies are viewed.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2003Date of Patent: February 21, 2006Assignee: CCL Label, Inc.Inventors: Guy S. Kiraly, Donald P. Klein, Brian J. Baumgart
-
Patent number: 6872277Abstract: A process for forming lenticular labels on a continuous web so that the lenticules are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the web. The process includes the steps of: advancing a continuous web of label stock including an adhesive on both sides; providing multiple sheets of lenticular assemblies; and securing the sheets of lenticular assemblies to one side of the continuous web with that lenticules of the lenticular assemblies oriented perpendicularly to the length of the continuous web.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2002Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: CCL Label, Inc.Inventors: Donald P. Klein, Brian J. Baumgart

Patent number: 5328738Abstract: A metallized label and a manufacturing method are disclosed in which a translucent base sheet is printed with markings on its rear surface, and a metal layer is applied over the printed markings. The printed markings form apertures or translucent areas through which the metal layer is visible from the front of the label. Adhesive and a release liner are applied to the rear of the metal layer. The metal layer may be applied only in areas in correspondence with the apertures.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1993Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Assignee: CCL Label, Inc.Inventors: Barron G. McKillip, Donald P. Klein
