Patent number: 8843020Abstract: A method of modifying a printer cartridge is disclosed. The modifications increase the versatility of an existing cartridge by enabling the cartridge to be transformed into a universal cartridge. The OEM print cartridges are restricted to use in a few or only one type of printer due to specialized gear side end plates and contact side end plates. End plates contain features or portions, such as bosses, which restrict the number of models of printer that a cartridge may be fit into. The features or portions may be removed by any combination of cutting, modifying, or replacing the gear side end or the contact side end plates. Removing the portions, removes the restrictions imposed by the end plates and allows the print cartridge to been fit into a greater number of printers. The universal cartridge may be used in the printer for which it is originally designed as well as another printer or printer family, thus increasing the versatility of the cartridge.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2011Date of Patent: September 23, 2014Assignee: Static Control Components, Inc.Inventor: Donald R Huck

Patent number: 8818241Abstract: A universal OPC drum that allows a remanufacturer to stock a minimum number of OPC drum sleeves of various sizes and then add the appropriate gear for the desired cartridge at the time of cartridge remanufacture. A universal OPC drum may also include a universal hub and an electrical contact on each end to maintain universality without regard to whether the OEM contact is mounted on the drive or non-drive side of the OPC drum.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2011Date of Patent: August 26, 2014Assignee: Static Control Components, Inc.Inventors: William K Swartz, Donald R Huck, Lawrence Dale Lewis, Anthony D Causey

Publication number: 20140153967Abstract: Image recording devices, such as electrophotographic devices, laser printers, copiers, and fax machines, often have a cartridge that utilizes a drive gear to transmit rotational force from the printer to the print cartridge. Also, it is desirable to remanufacture print cartridge both to reduce waste and to save resources. Therefore, it may be desirable to provide a drive gear mechanism that is easily replaced or reused when a print cartridge is remanufactured.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2014Publication date: June 5, 2014Applicant: STATIC CONTROL COMPONENTS, INC.Inventors: Jian Peng, Brandon Key, JR., Donald R. Huck, Anthony D. Causey, Craig A. Hallacher, Eric Shaffer

Publication number: 20140133883Abstract: Techniques for modifying an imaging cartridge includes providing the imaging cartridge comprising a body including a circuit holding structure sized to hold an electronic circuit and forming a modified circuit holding structure, with the modified circuit holding structure sized to hold a replacement electronic circuit. At least one dimension of the replacement electronic circuit may be greater than a corresponding dimension of the electronic circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2012Publication date: May 15, 2014Applicant: Static Control Components, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan W. Martin, Donald R. Huck, Patrick J. Novak

Patent number: 8611781Abstract: Imaging devices, such as laser printers, often use a toner cartridge to print images on a recording medium. For both environmental and economical reasons, it is often desirable to reuse an exhausted toner cartridge. Some imaging devices use toner cartridges comprised of two sections that are fixed together with some limited movement. This limited movement is necessary to compensate for any misalignment in the toner cartridge and to reduce printer defects. Disclosed is a method and device for remanufacturing this type of toner cartridge.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2011Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Static Control Components, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence Dale Lewis, Glenn L. Szabo, Donald R. Huck

Publication number: 20130302043Abstract: Image recording devices, such as electrophotographic devices, laser printers, copiers, and fax machines, often have a cartridge that utilizes an encoder wheel assembly in addition to or instead of a chip for determining toner load. It may be desirable to alter the encoder wheel or part of the cartridge, either by the printer or the cartridge, to permit a deliberate end of life function situation that requires the replacement of the cartridge, encoder wheel, or encoder wheel assembly components. This thereby controls the remanufacture or replacement of the toner cartridge in a way that is desirable to the manufacturer and prevents unauthorized refilling of the cartridge.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2013Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: STATIC CONTROL COMPONENTS, INC.Inventors: Christopher E. Nichols, David Dale Bascome, Jr., David G. Thompson, Donald R. Huck
