  • Patent number: 5055323
Abstract: The method of manufacturing a predecorated gypsum wallboard face paper wherein a protective base coat is applied on the face paper by a rotogravure printing of the protective coat with minute openings very closely spaced throughout the coating, as by printing the coat in the form of reasonably uniformly sized tiny dots with about 1000 to about 100,000 dots per square inch, and a decorative coat is applied over the base coat.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 24, 1987
Date of Patent: October 8, 1991
    Assignee: National Gypsum Company
Inventors: Donald R. Kole, Arthur E. Kennedy, George J. Bean, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4725477
Abstract: A predecorated gypsum wallboard and the method of manufacture wherein a protective base coat is applied on the face paper by a rotogravure printing of the protective coat with minute openings very closely spaced throughout the coating, as by printing the coat in the form of reasonably uniformly sized tiny dots with about 1000 to about 100,000 dots per square inch, a decorative coat is applied over the base coat, gypsum wallboard is formed with the coated surface of the paper on the outside face, and the newly formed wallboard, when hardened, is dried by heating and removing water from the gypsum core through the still porous coated paper.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 23, 1985
Date of Patent: February 16, 1988
    Assignee: National Gypsum Company
Inventors: Donald R. Kole, Arthur E. Kennedy, George J. Bean, Jr.

  • Patent number: 4128699
Abstract: Drying oils are used to improve strength and durability characteristics of gypsum wallboard paper with many unexpected additional advantages. Applied before board manufacture, critical porosity characteristics are left uninterrupted. Applied after board manufacture, shear strengths are obtained beyond expectations.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 3, 1977
Date of Patent: December 5, 1978
    Assignee: National Gypsum Company
Inventors: Donald R. Kole, Donald A. Kossuth
  • Patent number: 3954555
Abstract: A composition board consisting essentially of a resin binder in the amount of between about 10 and 45 percent by weight and filler materials in the amount of between about 90 and 55 percent by weight and having a cross section of varying depth formed as a result of differentially compacting a dry blank to a thickness which is between about 30 and 70 percent of the original thickness at an average pressure of between about 600 psi and 1500 psi at an elevated temperature which is between about 275.degree. F. and 350.degree. F. so as to cause portions which were compacted to a greater degree to exhibit a darker color than portions which were compacted to a lesser degree to thereby produce a tonal effect on said composition board.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 14, 1974
Date of Patent: May 4, 1976
    Assignee: National Gypsum Company
