Patent number: 7455270Abstract: A mechanism for mounting a support including a linkage, wherein the linkage has at least three bars, the mechanism is attached to a base by a mounting member, and the mounting member has a pair of slots wherein the linkage may slide and pivot relative to the mounting member. In another embodiment, the mechanism includes a height indicator whereby a height of the mechanism relative to a height indicating surface is displayed. In a further embodiment, the mechanism includes an angle indicator whereby an angle of the support relative to an angle indicating surface is displayed. In yet another embodiment, the mechanism permits adjustment of the angle of the support relative to the angle indicating surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2005Date of Patent: November 25, 2008Assignee: Weber Knapp CompanyInventors: Eric W. Maloney, Donald R. Pangborn

Patent number: 6536356Abstract: A computer desk including a base, a front member and at least one side member. The front member has a front surface and a back surface. The front surface is positioned at a predetermined negative angle with respect to the back surface. A hinge assembly is operatively connected to the base, the front member and the side member for allowing pivotal movement of the front and back surfaces with respect to the base. The hinge assembly includes a handle operatively connected to a cylinder to control such pivotal movement. The back surface can be used to support a computer keyboard. The front surface can be used to support the arms of a person using the desk.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Sauder Woodworking Co.Inventors: Douglas P. Krieger, Michael D. Lambright, Daniel G. Kovar, Gregory D. Fleming, Scott R. Davidson, Donald R. Pangborn

Patent number: 6257538Abstract: A mechanism for mounting a keyboard supporting surface on a base including a linkage for mounting the surface for vertical swinging movement relative to the base and for vertical tilting movement relative thereto, a lock device for simultaneously locking the surface against swinging and tilting movements, a counterbalance spring for opposing downwardly directed swinging movement of said surface and a return spring for opposing downwardly directed tilting movement of said surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1998Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Weber Knapp CompanyInventors: Donald R. Pangborn, Peter J. Kerl

Patent number: 6098944Abstract: A mechanism for supporting a component, such as a CPU, below a support, includes a support member mounted to depend from the support and being adapted to undergo both horizontally directed sliding movement and pivotal movement about a vertically disposed pivot axis relative thereto, a pair of straps having first and second ends, and a strap tension adjustment device carried by the support member, wherein second ends of the straps are removably fixed to the support member and first ends of the straps are fixed to the tension adjustment device, such that the straps are suspended below the support member as U-shaped loops sized to receive the component therewithin, and the tension adjustment device is manually operable to releasably shorten the lengths of the loops for clamping the component in position relative the support member. The component may be selectively mounted such that its major side surfaces or panels are arranged either normal or parallel to a lower surface of the support.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1999Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Weber Knapp CompanyInventors: Donald R. Pangborn, Richard L. Watt, James R. Caronia

Patent number: 6038986Abstract: A height adjustable mechanism for supporting a work support for vertical movement relative to a base includes a counterbalance mechanism for providing a force opposing a downward force tending to lower the work support; a lock mechanism for releasably retaining the work support in a desired vertical position; and a manual operator for selectively releasing the lock mechanism to permit vertical movement of the work surface, while preventing operation of the lock mechanism if the counterbalance force and the downward force are out of balance by some given extent. In the preferred construction, the lock mechanism is pivotally supported by a pin normally supported for axial sliding movement under the control of the manual operator, and the lock mechanism applies loading to the pin, when the counterbalance force substantially differs from the downward force, sufficient to constrain the pin against sliding movement, and thereby prevent release of the lock mechanism by the manual operator.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: March 21, 2000Assignee: Weber Knapp CompanyInventors: Matthew J. Ransil, Donald R. Pangborn

Patent number: 5791263Abstract: A mounting assembly is disclosed for mounting an auxiliary device, such as a keyboard support or work surface, for vertical movement relative to a support, such as a desk top. The assembly permits upwardly directed movement of the auxiliary device while releasably constraining downwardly directed movement relative to the support, and includes a linkage assembly coupled with a brake assembly fixed relative to the support. The auxiliary device is released for downwardly directed movement by manually operated paddle coupled with the brake assembly and movable with the auxiliary device.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1995Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Weber Knapp CompanyInventors: Richard L. Watt, Donald R. Pangborn
