  • Patent number: 6707635
Abstract: The present invention may be embodied in a method, and related apparatus, for determining a repeatable runout (RRO) compensation value sets for a plurality of tracks on a disk in a disk drive, wherein the disk drive is initially manufactured and then shipped for installation in a host system. Each track comprises a plurality of embedded servo sectors that define a circumferential path that may have RRO requiring compensation during track following. The method comprises determining first RRO value sets for a first portion of the tracks to a first desired learning level by measuring the RRO for the first portion tracks based on a first predetermined number of disk rotations during the initial manufacturing of the disk drive. The first portion tracks are not adjacent to each other.

  • Patent number: 6462896
Abstract: The present invention may be embodied in a method for minimizing adjacent track data loss due to a shock event occurring during a write operation in a disk drive. The method includes providing a plurality of adjacent concentric data tracks, for storage of user data, that are spaced-apart by a track pitch. The plurality of data tracks are allocated into a first set and a second set such that the data tracks of the first and second sets are interleaved physically with one another. A first series of logical block addresses are assigned to the first set of data tracks such that the first series of logical block addresses are consecutively numbered between successive ones of the first set of data tracks. A second series of logical block addresses, which consecutively follow the first series of logical block addresses, are assigned to the second set of data tracks such that the second series of logical block addresses are consecutively numbered between successive ones of the second set of data tracks.

  • Patent number: 5449089
Abstract: A plastic bell fountain cup includes a bottom surface, and a side wall formed integrally with and extending upwardly from the bottom surface. The side wall has a lower portion adjacent the bottom surface, an upper lip portion defining a top opening of the cup, and a radially outwardly expanded portion located between the lower portion and the upper lip portion. The radially outwardly expanded portion has a maximum diameter larger than a diameter of the bottom surface and larger than a diameter of the top opening. The side wall has a substantially uniform thickness throughout the lower portion, the radially outwardly expanded portion, and at least a part of the upper lip portion.

  • Patent number: 4949865
Abstract: A lid to cover a liquid holding container includes a circular rim portion for engaging the container rim and a cover opening for permitting liquid to pass in and out of the container. A support is centrally situated in the cover, the support having an upper margin situated at least as high as the circular rim portion. A closure member is formed unitarily with the cover and configured to seal the cover opening. A hinge permits the closure member to be pivoted between a position where the closure member is engaged in the cover opening and a position where the closure member is displaced from the cover opening. The hinge is molded unitarily to the upper margin of the central support in the cover.

  • Patent number: 4588851
Abstract: A quick assembly shield for electrically insulating the front surface of an electrical control device includes a flexible generally rectangular body having a top retainer including a step for engaging the lip of a lug on the top surface of the control device. A pair of laterally interfering surfaces are provided for longitudinally aligning the shield with respect to the underlining control device. A spaced pair of inwardly facing catches engage in snap fashion a laterally spaced pair of lugs on the lower surface of the control device. The shield can be quickly and positively engaged with the underlying control device yet still provide access to permit variance in temperature or other control functions as required.

  • Patent number: 4543445
Abstract: An electrically insulative shield is disclosed for engaging and covering a device in an electrical circuit. The shield includes a generally planar portion having first, second and third edges. When the shield is engaged to the device, these edges correspond generally in position to the first, second and third sides of the electrical device. A first gripping member extends outwardly from the planar portion adjacent the first edge. The gripping member includes an apertured portion for receiving a projection formed on the first side of the device. A first outwardly extending gripping hook member is provided adjacent the second edge. The first hook member grips a projection adjacent the second side of the device. A second outwardly extending gripping hook member is provided adjacent the third edge of the planar portion. The second hook member grips a projection adjacent the third side of the device.
