  • Patent number: 7665280
Abstract: Plies of paperboard are laminated to form a paperboard laminate having a front and a back. An automobile part is placed on the front of the paperboard laminate leaving exposed the front of the paperboard laminate. The automobile part and the exposed paperboard laminate are shrink-wrapped with plastic shrink-wrap material. For automobile window glass, some of the front side plies of the paperboard laminate have been cut out to form a cavity in the configuration of the glass product being packaged. The glass product is disposed in the cavity and a glass product conforming reinforcing block is placed against the backside of the paperboard laminate during the shrink-wrap operation. For automobile fenders, hoods, the paperboard laminate need not be cut out and the sides of the paperboard laminate are folded upwardly to form a carton bottom to which a lid is affixed for shipping.

  • Patent number: 5222444
Abstract: Broadly, the present invention is directed to paperboard runners and paperboard pallets constructed therewith. One aspect of the invention comprises a paperboard pallet comprising an upper deck and a lower deck having a plurality of runners interposed therebetween and affixed to each of said decks. Each of the runners comprises a sheet of paperboard that has been folded into a rectangular form having top and bottom walls, a pair of sidewalls, and a central vertical wall (e.g., the two ends of the sheet pressed together) interposed between the sidewalls. The top wall has openings. The central wall has quarter-round cut-outs located at the longitudinal ends of the top wall cut-out areas. The top wall openings are adapted to receive flaps having central slots cut in them.

  • Patent number: 5139194
Abstract: The present invention is addressed to an improved apparatus and method for making and using a self-locking container which may be non-destructively disengaged and thereafter re-interengaged. The invention features a polygonal container and an interlocking base and is well-suited where the container is also provided with an interlocking lid closing configuration. The base includes inwardly directed folded flanges which interengage with outwardly directed folded flanges provided on the lower edge of the container body. Therefore, when the container body section is nestingly mated with the base section, the oppositely-disposed flanges on each of the two respective container sections become lockingly engaged without the need for adhesives or other binding materials.
