  • Publication number: 20040013617
Abstract: The present invention relates to a sunless tanning composition comprising at least one sunless tanning active ingredient, at least one phospholipid, at least one nonionic surfactant, and at least one amphoteric surfactant. The sunless tanning active ingredient cab be dihydroxyacetone or erythrulose. The composition can, for example, be provided as clear, aqueous-based formulations that can be incorporated into sunless tanning sprays and non-aerosol mousses. Applying the composition to skin may provide enhanced tanning, such as enhanced tanning compared to a formula having the same level of sunless tanning active ingredient but without the phospholipid, nonionic surfactant, and amphoteric surfactant.

  • Patent number: 5935589
Abstract: The inventive compositions contain an oil-in-water and a water-in-oil emulsion, each buffered to a specific pH, so that the difference in pH values of the two emulsions is at least two units. The molecular mixing is minimized by selecting suitable oil and oil phase in a water-in-oil emulsion. The change in pH is further minimized by buffering each emulsion. The particular advantage of the inventive compositions is the ability to separate within a single composition, with minimal intermixing, active compounds which require different pH environments for stability and/or optimum efficacy.
