    Abstract: Disclosed are methods for identifying the presence of Pasteuria endospores in soil and soil extract samples and distinguishing between Pasteuria spp and non-Pasteuria spp in the samples. Also disclosed are methods for identifying the presence of Pasteuria endospores after immobilizing a soil extract or an isolated portion of the soil extract on a substrate. Further, methods for quantifying the approximate number of Pasteuria endospores in a soil sample are described.
