  • Patent number: 5345628
Abstract: To anchor an insert in proper wave motion-inhibiting position within a waterbed mattress, a rectangular, top vinyl sheet is patterned with corner sections which, upon formation of the mattress, are folded to provide a pair of inwardly extending anchoring flaps. Endless vinyl tethers are looped through apertures in the flaps to provide a secure four-corner anchorage of the inert to the mattress. Several forms of tether loop connections to an insert are disclosed for different constructions of wave motion-inhibiting inserts.

  • Patent number: 4879775
Abstract: A rail assembly is provided for forming reinforced waterbed walls. The rail assembly when assembled includes a plurality of cushions for defining the outer walls of a waterbed. Each cushion has an inner, a top and a bottom face. A reinforcing bar is positioned adjacent each cushion. Each reinforcing bar includes first, second and third members. The first member extends from the inner face of the cushion into the cushion. The second member extends from the first member along the inner face of the cushion. The third member extends from the second member away from the cushion and is oriented substantially coplanar with the bottom face of the cushion. The third member has overlapping areas and hook and pile fastening material, positioned between the overlapping areas to interlock the third members together. Additional hook and pile fastening material is positioned on the third member to fasten the third member to a fabric shell which surrounds and encloses the rail assembly.

  • Patent number: 4771491
Abstract: A rail assembly for a reinforced wall soft side waterbed includes at least one cushion assembly, each cushion assembly includes an upper rail of resilient material, a lower rail, and an L-shaped reinforcing bar which extends past the lower surface of the lower rail. The rail assembly is assemblable to a deck assembly including a side wall such that the depending flange of the L-shaped reinforcing member interlocks with the side wall of the deck assembly.

  • Patent number: 4688284
Abstract: A wave dampened waterbed mattress includes a bladder for containing water, a first horizontally extending baffle within the bladder having a horizontal extent corresponding generally to the horizontal extent of the top wall, and including flotation material for causing it to float against the top wall of the bladder is filled with water, and a second horizontally extending baffle within the bladder having a substantial horizontal extent and a density greater than water for causing it to lie against the bottom wall of the bladder. The first and second baffles are free floating, unanchored, and spaced relative to each other to leave a layer of unbaffled water between them. The upper baffle preferably includes a layer of beaded polyester fiber which is joined to a top layer of open cell convoluted foam. The bottom layer preferably includes several layers of unbeaded polyester fiber. The fiber is bonded and non-woven.

  • Patent number: 4597120
Abstract: A waterbed comprising a pair of like fluid-filled mattresses arranged side-by-side; surface continuity means preferably being a covering around the bottoms and outward sides of the mattresses and a flexible sheet attached to the covering extending across the mattresses for maintaining the mattresses steadfastly in side-by-side relationship and for reducing the collapse of the abutting edges of the mattresses under load; and means attached to the surface continuity means for reducing motion transfer and heat transfer between the mattresses. In a preferred embodiment, the transfer reducing means is a partition separating the pair of mattresses and being attached on one side only to the bottom of the covering.

  • Patent number: 4521929
Abstract: The present invention provides a heated waterbed comprising: an outer frame and a frame base together defining a central cavity; a sunken frame positioned underneath a portion of the central cavity, the sunken frame defining a cavity well; a heating unit positioned at the bottom of the cavity well; a water-filled container overlying the heating unit in the cavity well; and a plurality of water-filled receptacles together forming a waterbed mattress positioned in the central cavity, a portion of each receptacle being in contact with the water-filled container in the cavity well.

  • Patent number: 4506397
Abstract: A waterbed comprising a foundation having a rigid horizontally extending base and a rigid support member of substantially rectangular cross section fixed on the periphery of the upper surface of the base and substantially laterally completely enclosing a space on the base; a fluid-filled mattress of greater height than the height of the support member resting on the base in the space within the support member; and an annular cushion interlocked between the sides of the mattress and the support member. The annular cushion includes an upper portion resting on the top surface of the support member, a lower portion resting on the base and against the interior face of the support member, and an integral flexible connection between the upper and lower portions for enabling the upper portion to be pivoted away from the top surface of the support member for insertion of the edge of bedclothes therebetween.
