  • Patent number: 10671390
Abstract: A conditional instruction end facility is provided that allows completion of an instruction to be delayed. In executing the machine instruction, an operand is obtained, and a determination is made as to whether the operand has a predetermined relationship with respect to a value. Based on determining that the operand does not have the predetermined relationship with respect to the value, the obtaining and the determining are repeated. Based on determining that the operand has the predetermined relationship with respect to the value, execution of the instruction is completed.

  • Publication number: 20200159854
Abstract: A source code defining record structure of data is received. The source code includes data tags which provide information for processing to be performed on the data. Data tagging metadata is generated based on the source code, and the data tagging metadata includes record structure information and the data tags. • Publication number: 20200142705
Abstract: Migration of partially completed instructions. A determination is made that processing of an operation of an instruction executing on a processor has been interrupted prior to completion. The instruction is re-executed on a selected processor to resume forward processing of the instruction. The re-executing includes determining whether model-dependent metadata is to be used by the selected processor in re-executing the instruction. Based on determining the model-dependent metadata is to be used, the model-dependent metadata is used in re-executing the instruction. Based on determining the model-dependent metadata is not to be used, proceeding with re-executing the instruction without using the model-dependent metadata.

  • Publication number: 20200142669
Abstract: Storage accesses for merge operations are minimized. A plurality of records of a plurality of input lists are merged. The merging includes determining that an input list of the plurality of input lists has become empty, and checking, based on determining that the input list has become empty, a control specific for the input list. The control is used to determine how to proceed, such as whether to end merging or continue merging.

  • Publication number: 20200142706
Abstract: Saving and restoring machine state between multiple executions of an instruction. A determination is made that processing of an operation of an instruction executing on a processor has been interrupted prior to completion. Based on determining that the processing of the operation has been interrupted, current metadata of the processor is extracted. The metadata is stored in a location associated with the instruction and used to re-execute the instruction to resume forward processing of the instruction from where it was interrupted.

  • Patent number: 10623252
Abstract: A method includes provisioning, by a cloud provisioning server, an instance of a software resource or service for an end user. The provisioning is based on a template for the software resource or service. The template includes, at least, attribute data, and the attribute data is structured according to an action schema. The method also includes storing the action schema in association with the provisioned instance. The attribute data and the action schema determine at least one action of the provisioned instance. The method also includes performing the at least one action of the provisioned instance.

  • Patent number: 10621090
Abstract: A computing environment facility is provided to extend a hold of a cache line in private (or local) cache exclusively after processing a storage operand request. The facility includes determining whether a storage operand request to a storage location shared by multiple processing units of the computing environment is designated hold. In addition, a determination is made whether a state of the corresponding cache line in private cache used for processing the storage operand request is owned exclusively. Based on determining that the storage operand request is designated hold, and that the state of the corresponding cache line in private cache used for processing the storage operand request is owned exclusively, continuing to hold the corresponding cache line in the private cache exclusively after completing processing of the storage operand request. The continuing to hold may include initiating a counter to facilitate the continuing hold for a desired, set interval.

  • Patent number: 10620877
Abstract: A measurement sampling facility takes snapshots of the central processing unit (CPU) on which it is executing at specified sampling intervals to collect data relating to tasks executing on the CPU. The collected data is stored in a buffer, and at selected times, an interrupt is provided to remove data from the buffer to enable reuse thereof. The interrupt is not taken after each sample, but in sufficient time to remove the data and minimize data loss.

  • Patent number: 10621007
Abstract: In a logically partitioned host computer system comprising host processors (host CPUs) partitioned into a plurality of guest processors (guest CPUs) of a guest configuration, a perform topology function instruction is executed by a guest processor specifying a topology change of the guest configuration. The topology change preferably changes the polarization of guest CPUs, the polarization being related to the amount of a host CPU resource provided to a guest CPU.

  • Patent number: 10620995
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for dynamic workload bucket reassignment in a system processor includes grouping a plurality of like workloads together via a common workload attribute. The processor calculates an aggregate use of a resource across all of the workloads, and creates a finite number of buckets. The processor then assigns a target resource use for each of the finite number of buckets, and assigns workloads with a same workload attribute value to a bucket of the finite number of buckets. The workload attribute values are distributed across a plurality of the finite number of buckets such that each bucket has a unique nonintersecting range and an aggregate workload resource use in each bucket near a bucket target resource use.

  • Patent number: 10613895
Abstract: The amount of host real storage provided to a large guest storage buffer is controlled. This control is transparent to the guest that owns the buffer and is executing an asynchronous process to update the buffer. The control uses one or more indicators to determine when additional host real storage is to be provided.

  • Patent number: 10554525
Abstract: Systems and methods for tracking computing resources are provided. Aspects include receiving, by a workload manager, a workload, wherein the workload is executable on a customer machine, and wherein the customer machine comprises a plurality of computing resources. The workload is analyzed to determine a workload profile. A token associated with the workload is received and associated with the workload profile. • Patent number: 10521351
Abstract: Processing of a storage operand request identified as restrained is selectively, temporarily suppressed. The processing includes determining whether a storage operand request to a common storage location shared by multiple processing units of a computing environment is restrained, and based on determining that the storage operand request is restrained, then temporarily suppressing requesting access to the common storage location pursuant to the storage operand request. The processing unit performing the processing may proceed with processing of the restrained storage operand request, without performing the suppressing, where the processing can be accomplished using cache private to the processing unit. Otherwise the suppressing may continue until an instruction, or operation of an instruction, associated with the storage operand request is next to complete.
