Patent number: 5897848Abstract: Methods for the production of nickel or ammonium hypophosphite are disclosed, including combining sodium hypophosphite with nickel or ammonium sulfate to produce sodium sulfate and nickel or ammonium hypophosphite, and lowering the temperature of the solution containing the sodium sulfate to crystallize out the sodium sulfate.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1997Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Assignee: LeaRonal Inc.Inventors: Donald W. Thomson, Luis Henry Garay, Jason D. Horowitz

Patent number: 5678372Abstract: Adjacent reinforced, preformed wall panels are joined to one another by a wet-knit joint. The confronting edges of the wall panels are formed to have an undulating pattern of alternating convex, concave segments having ends of reinforcement bars extending from the concave segments. The reinforcement bar ends are connected to an arrangement of elongate bars and a zig-zag reinforcement bar, that knits the wall panels together. The wet-knit joint is completed by the introduction of concrete, or other pourable material, that, when cured, creates a strong connection between the wall panels.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1995Date of Patent: October 21, 1997Assignee: Constru-Plus Internacional, S.A.Inventors: Donald W. Thomson, Frank B. Nichols

Patent number: 5593709Abstract: A moldplate, defining first and second planar surfaces, is constructed to have a lift foot that supports a prefabricated panel for lifting and transport. The moldplate includes support tabs that attach to a lifting truss in a manner that positions one surface of the moldplate so that a vector normal to the mold surface has a horizontal component and an upward, vertical component to support the slabs during lifting and transport to a drying station. The moldplate can be positioned in spaced, confronting, generally parallel vertical relation to a fixed, planar surface with a peripheral sidewall positioned between the two surfaces, defining a void for receiving a pourable material to vertically form the prefabricated panel.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1995Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Assignee: Consorcio Can-Tico, S.A.Inventors: Donald W. Thomson, Frank B. Nichols

Patent number: 5216860Abstract: A building system utilizing outwardly projecting legs on a horizontally or vertically extending purlin to connect with standard stirrups on conventional columns in a rebar assembly. The stirrups are force-fit within the legs of the purlins extending outwardly from the surface of adjoining wall sections such that the rebar and the wall sections are connected in a uniframe construction without welding and a metal form can be fitted around the connection to form a channel into which concrete may be poured to form a unitary structure.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1991Date of Patent: June 8, 1993Assignee: Maploca of Illinois, Inc.Inventors: Donald W. Thomson, Terry W. Seitz

Patent number: 5174887Abstract: A process for depositing tin upon a steel strip by high speed electroplating to produce tinplate, which includes a basis solution of an alkyl sulfonic acid, a solution soluble tin compound and a surfactant, preferably of an alkylene oxide condensation compound of 1) an aliphatic hydrocarbon having seven, preferably six or less, carbon atoms and at least one hydroxy group, or 2) an organic compound having no more than a total of twenty carbon atoms in one or two independent or joined rings optionally substituted with an alkyl moeity of six carbon atoms or less. After electroplating, the tinplate is rinsed and the rinse water only needs to be treated for removal of tin ions prior to discharge by normal procedures.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1990Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Assignee: Learonal, Inc.Inventors: George A. Federman, Donald W. Thomson, Michael P. Toben, Neil D. Brown

Patent number: 4644014Abstract: An insulating foam and a process for producing insulating foam, wherein a foamable first component may be made of alkyl sulfate, half ester of maleic anhydride and acrylic resin in an aqueous solution is mechanically foamed with air, and to that foam is added an aqueous solution of magnesium oxide, dispersant, acrylic resin, perlite and/or precipitated calcium carbonate. To those components is added an aqueous solution of at least one of aluminum chloride, magnesium sulfate, magnesium chloride, zinc chloride, sulfamic acid, sodium silicate, zinc oxide, barium metaborate, vinyl alcohol, magnesium carbonate, calcium chloride and vinyl acetate. In another embodiment a polyvinyl alcohol and dispersant first portion is foamed with air and mixed with a second cementitious portion comprising magnesium oxide and barium metaborate.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1984Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Inventors: Donald W. Patent number: 4440277Abstract: An implement clutch and brake control for portable, engine-operated movable implement tools is described. The implement tool is controlled by a brake and clutch assembly operably connected between the implement tool and an implement engine. The assembly is normally biased as a brake to hold the implement tool stationary and is electrically operable as a clutch to drive the implement tool from the engine. The implement engine powers a voltage source to generate a voltage sufficient to operate the clutch. A "deadman switch" arrangement is operably connected between the voltage source and the clutch and brake assembly. Operator control of the switch maintains an electrical connection between the voltage source and the clutch and brake assembly. Resulting operation of the clutch operably drives the implement tool from the engine.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1981Date of Patent: April 3, 1984Assignee: Claude W. MorrisInventor: Donald W. Thomson

Patent number: 4179344Abstract: Gold base alloys containing copper and cadmium are deposited from aqueous plating baths comprising an aqueous alkaline bath containing soluble gold and copper cyanide compounds, a cadmium compound, free cyanide, and an effective amount of a chelating agent capable of chelating cadmium in the presence of free cyanide. The aqueous plating baths can also advantageously contain water soluble polyoxyalkylene compounds that act as brighteners in the above gold-copper-cadmium plating baths. The water soluble polyoxyalkylene compounds also act as brighteners in the gold-copper-cadmium baths in the absence of a chelating agent.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1976Date of Patent: December 18, 1979Assignee: Lea-Ronal, Inc.Inventor: Donald W.
