    Abstract: This invention is directed to an article of clothing having a lighting system that may be laundered with the clothing without damage to the electrical components of such system, comprising a light module that encapsulates and seals an electrical circuit coupled by one or more wires to a number of LEDs that are contained within a separate, leak-proof decorative patch. The patch is formed by a plastic base having an outer periphery that may be affixed to the article of clothing, such as by stitching, and a plastic cover preferably heat-sealed about its peripheral edge to the base defining a cavity between them within which the LEDs are mounted.
