  • Publication number: 20240132385
Abstract: A biological wastewater treatment process utilizes biology carriers having recesses or pores defined on their surfaces. Biology form a biofilm or granular biofilm on the surface of the biology carriers and within. The pores or recesses protect the biology. As dissolved oxygen is consumed by biology close to the openings of the recesses or pores, less dissolved oxygen reaches biology living deeper within the pores. The pores thereby define aerobic, anoxic, and anaerobic regions within each biology carrier. Some examples of the biology carriers may be made at least in part from biochar or other partially charred materials. The resulting biological process requires less physical space than conventional flocculant sludge based processes and is more readily established and maintained verses traditional aerobic granular sludge.

  • Publication number: 20230002264
Abstract: A water treatment system filters out solid material containing carbon, and provides that solid material to a fermenter. Volatile fatty acids are produced within the fermenter. After fermentation, a second filtering operation is utilized to permit passage of water and volatile fatty acids while filtering out solids from the fermenter. The volatile fatty acids are used as a food source for bacteria during secondary treatment of the water.

  • Patent number: 6500331
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for micro-filtering solid particles suspended in a liquid stream comprising: a couple of coaxial filtering discs each rotating round its own axis arranged horizontal and normal to direction of the flow to be treated and at least a partially cylindrical wall defining together with the rims of said couple of discs a hydraulic sealing coupling so as to enclose the liquid treating space comprising at least the rotation axis. Each disc of said couples of discs is provided with one or more washing ramps arranged outside said treating chambers and provided with nozzles throwing water against said discs at the portions emerging from the treating chamber. The washing water is collected by at least one liquid conveyance channel feeding the liquid back to the purification plant arranged upstream said machines.

  • Publication number: 20010017279
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for micro-filtering solid particles suspended in a liquid stream comprising: a couple of coaxial filtering discs (5, 6, 20, 21, 91, 92, 93, 94) rotating around its own axis (71) arranged horizontal and normal to direction of the flow to be treated and at least a partially cylindrical wall (7) defining together with the rims of said couple of discs a hydraulic sealing coupling so as to enclose the liquid treating space comprising at least the rotation axis. Each disc of said couples of discs is provided with one or more washing ramps (14, 15) arranged outside said treating chambers and provided with nozzles throwing water against said discs at the portions emerging (51, 61) from the treating chamber. The washing water is collected by at least a liquid conveyance channel (8) feeding the liquid back to the purification plant arranged upstream said machines.

  • Patent number: 5087358
Abstract: The invention discloses a machine for the filtering of solid, in particular fibrous, particles suspended in liquids, including a delivery chamber (2) collecting the liquid to be treated, a raceway (3) leading the liquid to be treated into a treatment chamber (4) having a cylindrical bottom (5), wherein there is at least one pair of revolving filters (6, 7), an overflow chamber (16) connected with a recycling tank and an area (21) for the discharge of the recovered solid particles. In the machine each filter (12) has a surface in the shape of a truncated cone and its horizontal axis is essentially perpendicular to the flow direction of the liquid to be treated, the two filters are coaxial with each other and face each other, so as to form a concave space (20) therebetween. The taper of the filters causes the double effect of increasing the filtering performance of the machine and of avoiding its standstill when the delivery of liquid to be treated increases.
