  • Publication number: 20240125267
Abstract: A charging system (20) of an internal combustion engine has a compressor (22) that compresses intake air (41) to a pressure higher than a boost pressure of the internal combustion engine. A first energy recovery turbine (25) recovers energy from an exhaust gas mass flow (45) discharged from a cylinder (12). The compressor (22) and the first energy recovery turbine (25) are disposed on a first shaft (31) and the recovered energy is transmitted directly to the compressor (22). A cooling turbine (24) expands and cools the (intake) air (41) compressed by the compressor (22) to the boost pressure required by the cylinder (12). A second energy recovery turbine (26) recovers energy from the exhaust gas mass flow (45). The second energy recovery turbine (26) and the cooling turbine (24) are on a common second shaft (32), and the second shaft (32) is coupled to at least one energy sink.

  • Patent number: 5429082
Abstract: A method and arrangement for operating a drive for auxiliary devices arranged on an internal-combustion engine has a differential gear driven by the crankshaft of an internal-combustion engine distributes a driving torque corresponding to the tooth numbers of the transmission to auxiliary devices driven by this transmission. An exciting current which is supplied to an auxiliary device, as a function of load signals and/or cooling water temperature signals, is regulated so that it changes the driving torque of the generator. For maintaining a constant wiring voltage generated by the generator, the rotational speed of the generator therefore changes and, via the differential gear, the rotational speed changes of another auxiliary device. The cooling power of the internal-combustion engine can therefore be regulated as a function of cooling demands or load requirements.

  • Patent number: 5315961
Abstract: A hydraulic valve tappet for an internal-combustion engine has a high-pressure valve through which an electroviscous fluid flows as a function of an electric voltage. In this case, a piston is displaced which is connected with a charge cycle valve so that the valve stroke is continuously variable. Using an electronic control device, the valve stroke is influenced as a function of parameters of the internal-combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 5305717
Abstract: The arrangement of the present invention provides for the automatically controlled varying of the relative rotating position of shafts in an international combustion engine, for example, a camshaft relative to a crankshaft driving it. This will influence the valve timing of an internal-combustion engine. The arrangement has an intermediate timing gear which can be axially moved between two end positions and which engages by way of a helical external and internal toothing with a driving wheel and the camshaft. An annulus, such as a stationary bearing ring, is filled with an electroviscous fluid which, by means of the application of a voltage supplied by an electronic control device, causes an axial force for the adjustment of the intermediate timing gear. An electroviscous locking bearing, which is provided between the camshaft and the intermediate timing gear, holds the intermediate timing gear in any position between the two end positions.
