    Abstract: Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for determining the position of a mobile communication terminal. A location server for determining a position of the mobile communication terminal in an Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS), the location server including a position calculating algorithm, and a base station information database, wherein the location server executes the position calculating algorithm when a base station measurement signal provided by the mobile communication terminal is received and reads x-coordinate values and y-coordinate values of corresponding base stations from the base station information database and determines an x-coordinate value of the mobile communication terminal by calculating a mean value of the x-coordinate values of the base stations and determines a y-coordinate value of the mobile communication terminal by calculating a mean value of the y-coordinate values of the base stations.

    Abstract: A navigation system utilizing a paging channel of a mobile communication service for a navigation apparatus including a mobile communication function is disclosed, which comprises: a BSC-based traffic server for periodically extracting/synthesizing traffic information in an area of a BSC, and then transmitting the traffic information of a peripheral area including the BSC; and a BSC for inserting the traffic information received from the BSC-based traffic server into the paging channel for a mobile communication terminal, and then transmitting it. In the navigation system, traffic conditions information in a corresponding area is transmitted by means of a paging channel, thereby utilizing real time traffic information while maintaining the architecture of the existing mobile communication network without an additional apparatus and communication cost.

    Abstract: A method for creating acquisition assistance information (AA data) for acquiring of a global positioning system (GPS) signal in an assisted global positioning system (AGPS) is provided. The method includes receiving repeater information included in a mobile communication network of a terminal whose location is to be measured, in response to a request for the acquisition assistance information for the GPS signal from the terminal, determining a repeater delay caused by a repeater that is present between the terminal and a base station that is synchronized with the terminal using the repeater information, and creating the acquisition assistance information for the GPS signal of the terminal based on the repeater delay. The AA data that is based on the repeater delay enables a terminal to more finely and stably acquire the GPS satellite signal. Also, accurate and stable acquisition of the GPS satellite signal of the terminal enhances the accuracy of calculation of the terminal location in the AGPS.
