  • Publication number: 20100051554
Abstract: Micro particulate compositions include molecular baskets deposited on the surface and impregnated within pores of micro particles. They may be used to detect and/or separate a target material in a sample. Molecular baskets include a molecular framework defining an exterior region and an interior target receiving region. Micro particles may have a high total surface area provided by external surfaces and internal pore surfaces. Micro particulate compositions are manufactured by dispersing molecular baskets onto outer surfaces and within internal pores of porous microparticles (e.g., as a solution or suspension within a solvent). Analytical devices for detection and/or separation of target materials in samples include a micro particulate composition configured to facilitate contact between the micro particulate composition and a sample.

  • Publication number: 20100055188
Abstract: A system for drug delivery including a plurality of molecular-valves that are responsive to an exterior stimulus so as to selectively open in response to the stimulus. A quantity of a drug is initially contained within the molecular-valves. The molecular-valves are associated with the surface (e.g., both the exterior surface, as well as within the internal pore structure) of the substrate. Upon exposure to a selected stimulus, the molecular-valves open, resulting in release of the drug molecules.

  • Publication number: 20100056380
Abstract: Systems and methods employing combinatorial arrays for revealing factors which control biomineralization processes. An understanding of such control factors may be expected to allow those of skill in the art to mimic biomineralization processes so as to allow manufacture of engineered synthetic biomineralized products, such as artificial bones. Such products would be expected to have structure and properties similar or identical to natural products (e.g., bones), and exhibit improved immunological acceptance when implanted as compared to existing synthetic engineered products.

  • Publication number: 20100055029
Abstract: The compositions and methods disclosed herein relate to nanoporous blocks of ice that include hydrogen hydrates for releasably storing hydrogen. The nanoporous ice includes pores with diameters in a range from about 1 nm to about 1000 nm. Hydrogen hydrates are formed in the nanoporous ice blocks under suitable conditions of high pressure and/or low temperatures. The nanopores in the ice blocks allow rapid formation of hydrogen hydrates and/or release of hydrogen due to flux of hydrogen gas through the ice blocks. In addition, the small size of the pores provides a high surface area and a high density of hydrogen storage in the ice.

  • Publication number: 20100055729
Abstract: Sensor devices and compositions can be used for detecting the presence of a target substance in a medium. The sensor devices and compositions can be configured to include at least one nanosensor through a high concentration of nanosensors that interact with the target substance to provide a detectable signal as an indication of such an interaction. The interaction is evidence that the medium includes the target substance. Various types of target substances can be detected with the sensor device, including inorganic molecules, organic molecules, atoms, ions, polypeptides, polynucleotides, cells, derivatives thereof, and combinations thereof.

  • Publication number: 20100055041
Abstract: Nanotracers for in-situ detection of cancerous gastric tissue include substantially monodisperse polymeric nanoparticles, at least one detectable label incorporated into each particle, and receptor-specific ligands coupled to each nanoparticle. The receptor-specific ligand is selected such that it interacts preferentially with ligand-specific receptors that are overexpressed on cancerous cells.

  • Publication number: 20100056754
Abstract: Nano-pumps including nano-motors that move dynamically in response to exterior stimuli, for example in response to photonic energy, electrical energy, a magnetic field, and/or a chemical concentration. The motion of such a molecular sized nano-motor structure can be managed and controlled so as to act as a pump. Such pumps could be used in nanobots in order to perform work.

  • Publication number: 20100055031
Abstract: The compositions and methods disclosed herein relate to ice nanorods having an elongate shape and a diameter in a range from 1 nm to 1000 nm. The ice nanorods include hydrogen hydrates that releasably store hydrogen. The hydrogen hydrates can be formed from ice and hydrogen under suitable conditions of high pressure and/or low temperatures. The ice nanorods allow the rapid formation of hydrogen hydrates and/or release of hydrogen due to the shape of the ice nanorods. The elongate shape and small diameter of the ice nanorods results in a high surface area of ice that allows rapid diffusion of a hydrogen gas into and out of the ice, thereby allowing rapid formation of hydrogen hydrates and release of hydrogen during use.

  • Publication number: 20070275371
Abstract: There is provided a polydiacetylene supramolecule comprising diacetylene molecules, capable of immobilizing a receptor molecule having a thiol group. Since the polydiacetylene supramolecule has a receptor immobilized thereon having a thiol group, for example, an antibody, and thus shows color transition when reacting with a sample, an antigen can be detected through specific color transition of the polydiacetylene when employing in a receptor-ligand reaction, for example, an antibody-antigen reaction.
