  • Patent number: 8345714
Abstract: A cell search method and apparatus for an asynchronous mobile communication system are provided. A Secondary Synchronization Code (SSC) correlator despreads a signal at every slot boundary in accordance with a z-sequence to output a SSC correlation value. The signal is received over a first symbol duration. A Primary Synchronization Code (PSC) correlator despreads the received signal in accordance with a PSC to output a PSC correlation value. A dot product calculator performs dot product calculation between the SSC correlation value and the PSC correlation value to output a correlation result of the SSC. A frame synchronization detector extracts frame synchronization information from the correlation result.

  • Patent number: 7940752
Abstract: A rake reception apparatus for determining whether a paging channel is received in a mobile terminal using a Discontinuous Reception (DRX) mode. A searcher searches for a multi-path signal using a received signal output from a Radio Frequency (RF) part, and calculates an energy value for each hypothesis. A demodulator demodulates a Paging Indicator (PI) for a hypothesis for which an energy value calculated by the searcher exceeds a valid path threshold. A controller determines whether a paging channel is received, according to the demodulated signal output from the demodulator, and performs finger allocation using a multi-path search of the searcher if it is determined that the paging channel is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 7532590
Abstract: A cell search apparatus and method in a mobile communication system. After a UE acquires slot boundary timing and frame boundary timing to a Node B, it acquires its scrambling code number and scrambling code timing. After the initial cell search, the UE performs multi-path search by searching a first area with respect to the scrambling code timing. During reacquisition in a sleep state, the UE searches a second area wider than the first area with respect to a scrambling code timing acquired before the sleep state. The UE performs neighbor cell search by selectively using the initial cell search and the multi-path search according to whether the Node B provides information or what information it provides.

  • Patent number: 7397784
Abstract: An apparatus and method of receiving multi-path signals in a direct sequence Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mobile communication system is disclosed. Timing control signals from respective fingers are collected, and relations among positions of time delays where the respective fingers intend to perform a demodulation are analyzed. If it is determined that the time delay position for a specified finger approaches the time delay position of the finger allocated with an adjacent multi-path as close as a threshold value, the distance between the time delay positions is compulsorily kept as the threshold value. This can be effected by making the timing control signal of the finger allocated with the adjacent multi-path be equally used in the specified finger.

  • Patent number: 7292551
Abstract: A method of increasing the waiting time of a mobile terminal by reducing power consumption for a cell search in a discontinuous reception mode. In an embodiment of the invention, the strengths of signals from neighbor cells are measured and compared with a first threshold. Then a cell search is performed on only neighbor cells having signal strengths higher than the first threshold. In a second embodiment of the invention, a cell search is not performed if the signal strength of an active set is higher than a second threshold in a discontinuous reception mode. In a third embodiment of the invention, an offline cell search is performed in a discontinuous reception mode in the last step of three conventional cell search steps.

  • Publication number: 20070189366
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for receiving a signal transmitted through a multi-path in a wireless communication system, and more particularly an apparatus and method for removing a fake path detected by the ripple of a baseband pulse shaping filter to detect the position of an effective multi-path signal in a direct sequence Code Division Multiple Access system. The method for detecting a fake path in a user equipment in a mobile communication system includes detecting peak indexes and peak energies of peaks of signals received from node B, performing a fake path check with respect to the peaks based on the peak indexes and peak energies, and allocating fingers to peaks which have been determined not to be caused by a fake path as a result of the fake path check.

  • Patent number: 7236468
Abstract: A cell search apparatus and method in a W-CDMA mobile communication system. The cell search apparatus and method performs a first cell search step, a second cell search step, and a third cell search step using a slot count value and a lower count value, counted by an index counter after being initialized upon power up of a UE (User Equipment), thereby determining a scrambling code for a Node B. Further, the cell search apparatus and method manages neighboring Node Bs by performing a multipath search.

  • Publication number: 20050088987
Abstract: A method for performing a third cell search process or a multi-path search process to detect a scrambling code used by a Node B or in a Mobile Station by generating at least one scrambling code; determining one of first and second methods, in which the first method calculates correlation energy values of reception signals associated with at least two scrambling codes sequentially generated with predetermined time delays, and the second method sequentially generates one scrambling code with the predetermined time delays, and calculates correlation energy values of the reception signals associated with the generated scrambling codes; calculating correlation energy values of the reception signals associated with the generated scrambling codes according to the determination result; and determining a scrambling code used by the Node B or multi-paths to be assigned to individual fingers of a rake receiver using the calculated correlation energy values associated with the scrambling codes.
