  • Publication number: 20080266904
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to optical devices including a light source and an optical film having a first surface disposed to receive light from the light source and a second surface facing away from the light source. The second surface includes a two-dimensional array of closely packed substantially hemispherically-shaped structures. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the optical film further includes a substrate portion having an optical characteristic different from optical characteristics of the second surface comprising the two dimensional array.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 7, 2008
    Publication date: October 30, 2008

  • Patent number: 7320538
Abstract: Optical films are disclosed, which have a structured surface including a plurality of concave pyramid-shaped structures, each structure having a base including at least two first sides and at least two second sides. In addition, optical devices are disclosed that incorporate the optical films, for example, such that a first surface of the optical film is disposed to receive light from a light source and the structured surface faces away from the light source.

  • Patent number: 7220026
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to optical films having a first surface and a structured surface, the structured surface comprising a plurality of prismatic structures. Each prismatic structure has a base including at least two first sides and at least two second sides. At least one of the first and second sides of at least one of the plurality of prismatic structures is offset with respect to at least one of the first and second sides of at least one other prismatic structure.

  • Publication number: 20070024994
Abstract: Optical films are disclosed that include a substantially transparent body having a first surface defined by a substrate portion and a structured surface disposed over the substrate portion opposite to the first surface. The structured surface includes a plurality of smaller pyramidal structures and a plurality of larger pyramidal structures interspersed with the plurality of smaller pyramidal structures. Each pyramidal structure has a base including at least two first sides disposed opposite to each other and at least two second sides disposed opposite to each other. Also disclosed are optical devices including such optical films.

  • Publication number: 20060250707
Abstract: Optical films are disclosed that include a body having a first surface, an axis and a structured surface including a plurality of pyramidal structures. Each pyramidal structure has a rounded tip and a base including at least two first sides disposed opposite to each other and at least two second sides disposed opposite to each other. Also disclosed are optical devices including such optical films.

  • Publication number: 20060103777
Abstract: Described is an optical film having a structured surface including a plurality of prismatic structures. Each prismatic structure has a base including at least two longer sides disposed opposite to each other along a first general direction and at least two shorter sides disposed opposite to each other along a second general direction. The body transmits light incident thereon along the first general direction when an angle of incidence is within a first predetermined angle range with respect to the axis and reflects light when the angle of incidence is outside the first predetermined angle range. The body transmits light incident thereon along the second general direction when an angle of incidence is within a second predetermined angle range with respect to the axis and reflects light when the angle of incidence is outside the second predetermined angle range.
