  • Publication number: 20050025358
Abstract: A system identifies an abrupt transition in content between two frames, and determines whether the abrupt transition was caused by a shot boundary between the two frames or by a flashlight event. Identification of the abrupt transition in content includes calculating a difference in light intensity histograms between the current frame and a preceding frame, and comparing the histogram difference to a dynamically determined threshold. Further, an average light intensity based method is used to determine whether the abrupt transition was caused by a shot boundary or by a flashlight event.

  • Publication number: 20040197071
Abstract: An algorithm identifies a salient video frame from a video sequence for use as a video thumbnail. The identification of a video thumbnail is based on a frame goodness measure. The algorithm calculates a color histogram of a frame, and then calculates the entropy and standard deviation of the color histogram. The frame goodness measure is a weighted combination of the entropy and the standard deviation. A video frame having the highest value of frame goodness measure for a video sequence is determined as the video thumbnail for a video sequence.

  • Publication number: 20040013337
Abstract: Waveplates formed of mesogen-containing polymers and planar lightwave circuits containing such waveplates. Polymers have sidechains containing mesogens such as biphenyl-containing groups. Polymers may have a glass transition temperature between 100 C. and 300 C., and polymers may be stretched in excess of 150% to increase birefringence of polymer and provide thin films. Waveplates formed of stretched polymer films may have high biaxial birefringence.

  • Patent number: 6632511
Abstract: The present invention is directed to filled prepregs, laminates, printed circuit boards comprising a reinforcing material impregnated with a cured polymeric resin, the cured polymeric resin comprising multicellular polymeric microspheres as a filler. Pre-pregs, laminates and printed circuit boards prepared by this method have reduced dielectric constant as low as 3.0, depending upon the resin system of the matrix. In addition, such laminates and printed circuit boards have enhanced electrical, thermal and mechanical properties as well as improved machinability, low density and a uniform appearance.

  • Publication number: 20030184579
Abstract: A video skim is assembled by identifying one or more key frames from a video shot. Certain lengths of frames to the left and right of the key frame are measured for visual content variety. Depending upon the measured visual content variety to the left and right of the key frame, the video skim is assembled that has L frames to the left of the key frame and R frames to the right of the key frame. Measuring the visual content variety to the left and right of the key frame, provides a video skim that incorporates the more salient features of a shot.

  • Publication number: 20030175588
Abstract: The present invention provides improved cathode compositions, improved cathodes, methods of producing improved cathodes including the cathode compositions and improved lithium secondary batteries. The cathode compositions of the invention are comprised of a particulate cathode active material, a particulate conductive substance and a binder formed of small fibers that are substantially homogeneously dispersed throughout the cathode composition but which do not encapsulate to any meaningful degree the particulate conductive substance and cathode active materials, so that a lithium secondary battery including the cathode composition has an improved charge-discharge rate capability and improved power and energy densities.

  • Patent number: 6479595
Abstract: Hydrophobic polymer materials having improved dyeability with water-based dyes are prepared by treating a hydrophobic polymer with aglow discharge plasma generated from working gases selected from SO2, O2, N2, He, H2, CO2, CF4, NO, N2O, 2-Hydroxypropyl Methacrylate (HPMA), air or combinations thereof, in which a treated material comprises a hydrophobic inner core and a hydrophilic outer sheath having polar functional groups. A method of treating hydrophobic polymer materials using a glow discharge plasma, preferably at high pressure (e.g., about 50 Torr or greater), thereby modifying the active surface characteristics of the polymer to contain polar functional groups is also presented.
