  • Patent number: 6359105
Abstract: Cross-linked toner resin having linear portions and cross-linked portions of high density microgel particles, where the toner resin is an unsaturated polyester resin, is prepared using a liquid chemical initiator such as 1,1-bis(t-butyl peroxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane so that the cross-linked resin achieved contains less than 0.20 percent by weight of acids. In particular, the cross-linked toner resin is free of benzoic acid. The method of making the cross-linked toner resin includes (a) spraying the liquid chemical initiator onto the unsaturated polyester resin prior to, during or subsequent to melting of the unsaturated polyester resin to form a polymer melt; and (b) subsequently cross-linking the polymer melt under high shear to form the cross-linked toner resin.

  • Patent number: 6326119
Abstract: A method of forming a toner having controlled properties for use in a developer composition finding particular use in a hybrid scavengeless development scheme includes feeding at least one binder and at least one colorant into a mixing device at a feed ratio, upon exit of the mixture from the mixing device, monitoring one or more properties of the mixture with at least one monitoring device, wherein if the monitoring indicates that the one or more properties being monitored is out of specification, removing the monitored mixture from the method and adjusting the feed ratio by adjusting the feeding of the at least one binder or of the at least one colorant, thereby retaining in-specification mixture in the method. The in-specification toner is ground, optionally together with a portion of one or more external additives, classified, and mixed with one or more external additives to obtain the toner having controlled properties.

  • Patent number: 6060549
Abstract: Toughened nanocomposite materials are prepared based on a blend of one or more thermoplastic engineering resins, e.g., nylon, a functionalized, e.g. brominated, copolymer of a C.sub.4 -C.sub.7 isomonoolefin, e.g. isobutylene, and a para-alkylstyrene, e.g. para-methylstyrene, and further contain a uniformly dispersed exfoliated phyllosilicate layered clay, e.g., montmorillonite. The nanocomposite materials exhibit superior mechanical properties, including enhanced impact strength.

  • Patent number: 5681899
Abstract: The invention relates to impact modifiers for polyamide compositions which improve the impact strength of the polyamides without adversely affecting the flexural modules of the composition. The impact modifiers comprise blends of general purpose rubbers and a halogenated copolymer of a C.sub.4 to C.sub.7 isomonoolefin and an alkylstyrene. In addition, the invention is drawn to a polyamide composition containing such impact modifiers.

  • Patent number: 5656694
Abstract: Vulcanizable blends containing a halogenated copolymer of a C.sub.4 -C.sub.7 isomonoolefin and para-alkylstyrene mixed with one or more olefinically unsaturated elastomeric polymers are disclosed. Cure is preferably effected using zinc stearate as a curative at levels below about 3.0 phr which gives rise to vulcanizates having selective interpolymer addition of benzylic halogen present in the halogenated copolymer to the double bond of the unsaturated polymer with no significant self curing of the halogenated polymer taking place.

  • Patent number: 5597866
Abstract: Crystalline propylene polymer compositions having improved impact strength and improved clarity are disclosed. The composition is prepared by melt blending a propylene polymer, e.g., polypropylene, and from about 1 to 35 wt % of an elastomeric interpolymer of a C.sub.4 to C.sub.8 isomonoolefin, e.g., isobutylene, and a para alkystyrene comonomer, e.g., para-methylstyrene. The interpolymer preferably contains a benzylic functional group such as halogen (bromine). The composition may also contain from about 0.5 to 15 wt % of the amide reaction product of an organic acid-grafted propylene polymer, e.g., maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene, and a polyfunctional primary amine.
