Patents by Inventor Donna J. Fielding

Donna J. Fielding has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 4945118
Abstract: Included are the title phosphorate compounds, and a process to prepare them comprising contacting a carbylphosphorate mono acid halide with a carbyloxide. For example, ((2-(3-bromo-2,2-bis(bromomethyl)propoxy)ethyl(chloroethyl)-(ethyl))phosph orate can be prepared with (2-(3-bromo-2,2-bis(bromomethyl)propoxy)ethyl)(ethyl)-chloridophosphorate and ethylene oxide. The compounds are useful so-called flame-retardants for polyurethanes, especially flexible foams because, for example, substantially non-scorching and non-odoriferous flame-retardant flexible foams can be readily prepared with the compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 3, 1989
Date of Patent: July 31, 1990
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Chester E. Pawloski, Donna J. Fielding, David J. Wampfler

Abstract: Included are the title phosphorate compounds, and a process to prepare them comprising contacting a carbylphosphorate mono acid halide with a carbyloxide. For example, ((2-(3-bromo-2,2-bis(bromomethyl)propxy)ethyl(chloroethyl)-(ethyl))phospho rat e can be prepared with (2-(3-bromo-2,2-bis(bromomethyl)propoxy)ethyl)(ethyl)chloridophosphorate and ethylene oxide. The compounds are useful so-called flame-retardants for polyurethanes, especially flexible foams because, for example, substantially non-scorching and non-odoriferous flame-retardant flexible foams can be readily prepared with the compounds.

  • Patent number: 4690954
Abstract: A method for improving a production characteristic of flame-retardant polyurethanes. The characteristic may be selected from the group consisting of(1) processability;(2) scorch;(3) odor; and(4) flame-retardant efficiency. The method comprises incorporation into a polyurethane an amount effective to reduce combustibility of a haloether phosphorate flame-retardant under conditions sufficient to improve said characteristic. Also, the flame-retardant polyurethane composition such as prepared by said method. Preferably, the polyurethane is a foam, especially a flexible foam and most especially flexible slabstock foam.

  • Patent number: 4686241
Abstract: Included are the title phosphorate compounds, and a process to prepare them comprising contacting a carbylphosphorate acid halide with a carbyloxide. For example, (3-chloro-2,2-bis(bromomethyl)propyl)bis(ethyl)phosphorate can be prepared with 3,3-bis(bromomethyl)oxetane and bis(ethyl)chloridophosphorate. The compounds are useful flame retardants for polyurethanes, especially flexible foams because, for example, substantially non-scorching and non-odoriferous flame-retardant flexible foams can be readily prepared with the compounds. Also included is a method for inducing scorch in polyurethanes, which can be used to generally determine polyurethane formulations which are prone to not scorch in commercial production.
