Publication number: 20200407140Abstract: A reclosable package is described that includes inner and outer film layers. Each of the inner and outer film layers includes die cuts that are designed to create a peelable flap portion that, when pulled back by the user, reveals an opening of the package for providing access to the contents of the package. In particular, the inner film layer has an inner die cut that includes a cross-directional cut line. While the cross-directional cut line in conventional packages is a straight line, the package described herein uses a line that has one or more radii of curvature. In this way, the vibrations that may otherwise be generated during the rotary die cutting process are reduced, and more consistent cut depths can be achieved.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2020Publication date: December 31, 2020Inventors: Jacob Donald Prue Branyon, Donovan Young, Eugene Smith

Patent number: 9421736Abstract: A hybrid pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) composition includes (i) a solvent phase comprising a first acrylic PSA dissolved in an organic solvent, an alcohol, and optionally water; and (ii) an emulsion phase comprising a second, emulsified acrylic PSA. In another aspect, a metalized film laminate includes a metalized film layer, a hybrid PSA layer, and an ink-containing polymeric film layer. The two-phase hybrid PSA system effectively addresses both metal tear and ink pick problems associated with conventional metalized film laminates.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2011Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: Sonoco Development, Inc.Inventors: Singa D. Tobing, Barry Reese, Donovan Young

Publication number: 20050100753Abstract: An easy tear packaging film, a method of producing the film and a grocery bag formed from the film are described. The film is formed from a coextruded mono-web having a linear low density polyethylene heat sealant layer, a high density polyethylene barrier layer and a polypropylene print layer. The mono-web is uniaxially oriented in the transverse direction to provide linear tear characteristics. Ink is printed on the print layer. A clear energy cured coating is disposed on the print layer over the ink to provide high gloss, scuff resistance and heat resistance. The film exhibits the linear tear characteristics of the mono-web because the energy cured coating has a negligible affect on the tear properties of the film.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2003Publication date: May 12, 2005Inventors: Barry Reese, Donovan Young

Patent number: 6151295Abstract: A method of frame synchronization for OFDM point-to-multipoint channels is provided according to a first aspect of the invention, wherein sequences of reference frames are inserted at prescribed intervals between sequences of information frames. Each frame comprises a cyclic prefix, composed of two identical segments of data, which is used for locating a frame synchronization starting point by applying a subtraction function on the two segments of data for locating the starting point at the location of the minimum of the function. A method of channel equalization for OFDM channels is also provided according to a second aspect of the invention, wherein the reference frames and data known to a receiver are used for creating an equalization vector for correcting broadcast errors of the information frames received at the receiver side.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1998Date of Patent: November 21, 2000Assignee: Wavesat Telecom Inc.Inventors: Steve Ma, Donovan Young, Jiang Lei Ma
