  • Publication number: 20160165066
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need for improved spectrum sharing. In one method, a broker network receives (501) from each bidder network of a group of bidder networks, a request for a spectrum allocation. The broker network sends (502) to the group of bidder networks an indication of a price and receives (503) from each bidder network an indication of accepted bandwidth corresponding to the price. Until (504) a broker exit condition is satisfied, the broker network iteratively performs the following: generates (505) a new price from the current price, sends (506) an indication of the new price to the group of bidder networks, and receives (507) an indication of accepted bandwidth corresponding to the new price from each bidder network of the group of bidder networks.

  • Publication number: 20160127911
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a cellular wireless communications network has clusters, each cluster having a plurality of cells and a cluster-level controller that dynamically divides the cluster into non-interfering sub-clusters for each resource allocation unit (e.g., physical resource block) . Each sub-cluster has one or more cells that transmit to a single user in the cluster for the resource allocation unit, and at least one sub-cluster has at least two cells that transmit to a single user for the resource allocation unit using a distributed diversity mode of communication in which the at least two cells transmit the same data to the single user. The controller divides the cluster into sub-clusters based on determinations of whether users in the cluster are susceptible to interference from non-serving cells in the cluster. By assigning potentially interfering, non-serving cells to the sub-cluster for a user, those non-serving cells are eliminated as sources of interference.

  • Publication number: 20150163784
Abstract: Method and apparatus for allocating resources to real-time traffic communication in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) based system are provided. An example method includes assigning, selecting, mapping and transmitting. One or more Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) packets are assigned to a single bundled packet. A first modulation and coding scheme (MCS) of a set of MCSs is selected. The first MCS is the one MCS of the set of MCSs capable of mapping the bundled packet to a smallest possible amount of physical OFDMA resources while addressing one or more negative impacts of interference on a link associated with the real-time traffic communication. The bundled packet is mapped to the smallest possible amount of physical OFDMA resources based on the first MCS selected. The bundled packet is transmitted using the first MCS selected and over the smallest possible amount of physical OFDMA resources mapped.

  • Patent number: 8812712
Abstract: Methods for proxy-driven content rate selection for streaming media servers are provided. In one method, one or more maximum transmission rate parameters from a network controller are stored at a proxy server in response to a receiver report message from the client. A target rate for the media session is generated based on the stored maximum transmission rate parameters, and the target rate is transmitted to a media server in a proxy-to-server feedback message. The media server selects the content rate from among a plurality of supported content rates in response to the proxy-to-server feedback message from the proxy server, and streams streaming multimedia frames to the client at the selected content rate.

  • Publication number: 20130331136
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to improve wireless communications. In one method, a need for additional wireless service in a target area is detected (401). As part of a second-layer beamforming process, at least some inter-cell interference is canceled (403) in the target area. In another method, a wireless denial of service (WDoS) attack from a first wireless node is detected (501). A signaling beam is directed (502) toward the first wireless node to suppress signaling from the first wireless node. While suppressing this signaling, service is provided (503) to other wireless nodes.

  • Patent number: 8443097
Abstract: The present invention relates to a queue management unit and method for streaming video packets in a wireless network. The method includes determining a type of frame from a header of a video packet received at a transmit buffer. The method further includes discarding the received frame if the received frame is dependent upon any previously discarded frame, otherwise storing the received frame in one of a plurality of sub-queues of the transmit buffer according to the type of frame, where each sub-queue of the plurality of sub-queues stores frames corresponding to one type of frame. Also, the method includes creating space in the transmit buffer if there is insufficient space for a higher priority frame by discarding lower priority frames, as well as discarding frames in the transmit if the received frame is delayed more than a maximum period of time.
