  • Patent number: 8693457
Abstract: An apparatus and media are provided for more effectively utilizing modems in a WiMAX environment. The apparatus connects a computing device to a network-based information system through at least a first WiMAX modem that is located within the apparatus. A second WiMAX modem can be removably coupled to the apparatus so as to connect the first computing device to the network in combination with the first WiMAX modem. In the event the second WiMAX modem is removed, network connectivity provided by the first WiMAX modem is maintained.

  • Patent number: 8634423
Abstract: Methods and media are provided for allowing WiMAX device users varying levels of Quality of Service (QoS) based on the network service provider ID (NSPID) present on the device. A user's authentication request can be routed based on the NSPID, thus ensuring certain prescribed QoS levels. The QoS level could be varied over time as requested by the user. Guarantee of the QoS levels can be accomplished by dedicating network resources, such as the number of servers, the quality of servers, or the bandwidth allocated. Utilizing the NSPID to route the user prior to authentication also improves latency time for user-authentication requests and improves traffic flow across the network by reducing the need to reroute.

  • Patent number: 8270330
Abstract: A system and methods are provided for communicating media data associated with a media host device to a mobile device and presenting the media data via the mobile device. The media data includes information associated with media content available to a media host device. The mobile device receives a request to present media data. The mobile device receives the media data from a media data source via at least one protected network. Targeted advertising may be inserted into the media data prior to delivery. The media data is presented via the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8233466
Abstract: A system and method are provided for more effectively utilizing modems in a WiMAX environment, so as to improve network connectivity while providing access for both fixed as well as portable computing devices. The apparatus connects one or more computing devices to a network-based information system through at least a first WiMAX modem that is located within the apparatus. A second WiMAX modem can be removably coupled to the apparatus so as to improve network connectivity and operability. In the event, the second WiMAX modem is removed and coupled to a portable computing device, network connectivity provided by the first WiMAX modem is maintained.
