The handle tab is designed to stay above the surface of the mat or rug when the pin-shaped element is holding the mat or rug in place. The upper face of the handle tab may have indicia inscribed upon it, or embossed/raised above it in order to provide a decorative aspect to the device beyond the utilitarian purpose of holding the mat or rug in place.
