Abstract: Apparatus and techniques for laser-processing workpieces can be improved, and new functionalities can be provided. Some embodiments discussed relate to use of beam characterization tools to facilitate adaptive processing, process control and other desirable features. Other embodiments relate to laser power sensors incorporating integrating spheres. Still other embodiments relate to workpiece handling systems capable of simultaneously providing different workpieces to a common laser-processing apparatus. A great number of other embodiments and arrangements are also detailed.

Abstract: A method and system for performing retail transactions allows use of a wireless device in lieu of conventional financial cards. A retail system sends customer-independent transaction data, which is matched with a customer account associated with a wireless device. A customer sends a wireless communication from a wireless device to a server. The server identifies the wireless device and identifies a customer account associated with the wireless device. The customer account and the customer-independent transaction data are matched together, authorizing the retail transaction. When multiple retail transactions occur within a short time, a matching technique scores matches between multiple retail transactions and multiple customer-initiated wireless communications.

Abstract: A method and device for magnetizing a tool bit. A housing is adapted for removably fitting around a magnetically attractive tool bit, and a plurality of magnets are disposed in the housing and adapted for making contact with the surface of the bit, to strengthen the magnetic coupling of the magnets to the bit. The device preferably remains on the bit while employing the bit, and is especially adapted for high speed use.
