The system includes a knife guard mounted to the header, a knife section of the sickle that is configured to move either along or with respect to a surface of the knife guard, and a sensor either mounted to the knife guard or another surface of the header for sensing the condition of the knife section.

The knife drive assembly includes a housing, a rotatable driver having at least one curved channel or sloped lateral side, at least one wobble arm engaging the curved channel and a at least one mounting bar that engages the wobble arm and a cutter bar such that when the rotatable driver is rotated, the cutter bar engages in substantially linear oscillating motion.

The crop gathering system also includes a rotary cam having an elongated shaft with a cam surface. The shaft extends inside the tube along an axis radially offset from the axis of the tube. The crop gathering system further includes a cam follower having a proximal end engaging the cam surface of the elongated shaft, and a distal end aligned with the aperture. The cam follower can be in the form of an auger finger that moves in and out of the tube wall as the tube is rotated to gather crop material and convey the crop material to a threshing system. A cam actuated finger assembly can be manufactured for installation in an auger of an agricultural harvester.
