  • Publication number: 20170069227
Abstract: There is presented a system and method for providing real-time object recognition to a remote user. The system comprises a portable communication device including a camera, at least one client-server host device remote from and accessible by the portable communication device over a network, and a recognition database accessible by the client-server host device or devices. A recognition application residing on the client-server host device or devices is capable of utilizing the recognition database to provide real-time object recognition of visual imagery captured using the portable communication device to the remote user of the portable communication device. In one embodiment, a sighted assistant shares an augmented reality panorama with a visually impaired user of the portable communication device where the panorama is constructed from sensor data from the device.

  • Patent number: 9575180
Abstract: A building comprising a plurality of rooms (10) includes a room occupancy sensing apparatus. A light source (20) emits a series of light pulses (22), a plurality of waveguides deliver light from the light source to output nodes (60) located in the rooms, and a signal capture unit (30) receives output signals resulting from light reflected by objects in the rooms. The apparatus detects movement, of for example a person (40), in a room and ascertains the room concerned by virtue of (i) detecting a difference between the shape of the waveform of the signal (24 i) received at the signal capture unit (30) in response to a first emitted light pulse and the shape of the waveform of the signal (24m) received at the signal capture unit in response to a second emitted light pulse and (ii) relating said reflected light pulses to the appropriate output node and therefore to the room (10) associated with that output node (60).

  • Publication number: 20160131456
Abstract: A sensor for a missile seeker includes a primary, concave, reflector that is reflective to RF waves and to another kind of waves, but that includes a transmissive region, through which RF waves can pass. A secondary, convex, reflector is reflective to RF waves but transmissive, and not reflective, to the other kind of waves, and is arranged facing the primary reflector to further reflect RF waves reflected by the primary reflector through the transmissive region of the primary reflector. An RF detector is arranged on the opposite side of the primary reflector from the secondary reflector and arranged to detect the RF waves reflected by the secondary reflector through the transmissive region of the primary reflector. A second detector, for detecting the other kind of waves, is arranged on the opposite side of the secondary reflector from the primary reflector and is arranged to detect the other kind of waves after they are reflected by the primary reflector and transmitted through the secondary reflector.

  • Publication number: 20160097627
Abstract: The existing problem within the construction industry is that with each builder the framework for the project will differ based on the location of the supporting framework at the required distance, sometimes causing huge cost overages or poor quality workmanship. The solution to this problem is to ensure each ensuing supporting frame member (wood or metal 2×4, 2×6) is spaced exactly at the same distance as the previous frame member. This hand portable jig will ensure this occurs by setting the jig to the desired distance, then placing the jig where it straddles the last frame member installed, awaiting the insertion of the next frame member. Each newly installed frame member will be spaced at the same corresponding distance throughout the project. The Speed Stud and joist Setting Jig is my invention; it is unique because once the tool has been set to the desired distance one individual can consistently place wall studs or floor, ceiling joist into position and secure them into position.

  • Patent number: 9244734
Abstract: A system and method for enhancing barrier collective synchronization on a computer system comprises a computer system including a data storage device. The computer system includes a program stored in the data storage device and steps of the program being executed by a processor. The system includes providing a plurality of communicators for storing state information for a barrier algorithm. Each communicator designates a master core in a multi-processor environment of the computer system. The system allocates or designates one counter for each of a plurality of threads. The system configures a table with a number of entries equal to the maximum number of threads. The system sets a table entry with an ID associated with a communicator when a process thread initiates a collective. The system determines an allocated or designated counter by searching entries in the table.

  • Publication number: 20150206236
Abstract: In a hierarchical multiple-node supply chain, a commodity is sold a first time at a first end of the supply chain and is resold multiple times across the supply chain before being sold a final time at a second end of the supply chain opposite the first end. A user who is a buyer and/or a seller within the supply chain is interacted with by exchanging text messages with a mobile phone device of the user to provide the user with a current price of the commodity for a type of the user within the supply chain, and to receive from the user an actual price of the commodity in a current transaction in which the user was involved. The type of the user includes a node within the supply chain to which the user corresponds.

  • Publication number: 20140229603
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a method for disabling at least one application in a mobile device, wherein a communications component of the mobile device receives a request to disable the application and a certificate. The certificate defines a geographic area in which the application is to be disabled. The geographic location of the mobile device is determined with a location component in the mobile device; and, a processor in the mobile device compares the geographic location of the mobile device to the geographic area defined in the certificate to determine whether the geographic location of the mobile device is within the geographic area. The processor validates the certificate to determine whether the request to disable the application is authorized. When the certificate is valid and when the geographic location of the mobile device is within the geographic area, a controller in the mobile device disables the application.
