Patent number: 11548120Abstract: Disclosed is a tool, such as pliers, with handle offsets and stop features. In an embodiment, the tool has a minimum of about 0.50 inches of clearance between handles in an area where a user's index finger contacts the handles. This is accomplished by offsetting upper and lower handles of the tool. For example, the lower handle may be offset about 1.10 inches from a pivot point between the handles. Similarly, an end of the upper handle may be offset by about 1.150 inches from the pivot point when jaws of the tool are adjusted to a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2020Date of Patent: January 10, 2023Assignee: Snap-on IncorporatedInventors: Douglas A. Moyer, Daniel M. Eggert

Publication number: 20220234172Abstract: High leverage locking-type pliers incorporating a four bar linkage system adapted to amplify force applied by the user to an object gripped between jaws of the pliers. The pliers include first and second handles, first and second jaws, and a center link rotatably or pivotally coupled to the first and second handles. A first link pivot where the center link rotatably or pivotally couples to the second handle may be a first distance L1 away from a second jaw pivot where the second jaw rotatably or pivotally couples the second handle. A first jaw pivot where the second jaw rotatably or pivotally couples the first handle is a second distance L2 away from the second jaw pivot. In an embodiment, the first distance L1 is about 34% to about 70% of the second distance L2.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2021Publication date: July 28, 2022Applicant: Snap-on IncorporatedInventors: Daniel M. Publication number: 20190255682Abstract: Disclosed is a tool, such as pliers, having a reduced spacing between adjustment teeth, and an elongated slot; thereby providing an improved adjustability and larger capacity to hold workpieces. In particular, the spacing of the adjustment teeth and length of the slot provide more adjustment positions and allow more teeth to be engaged at all positions. For example, the teeth may be spaced at 0.098 inches and the tool may provide a maximum jaw opening of 2.24 inches.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2018Publication date: August 22, 2019Applicant: Snap-on IncorporatedInventors: Douglas A. Moyer, Arendt M. Jeffrey

Publication number: 20190255684Abstract: Disclosed is a tool, such as pliers, having reduced spacing between teeth extending into a slot on a handle of the tool. This provides improved adjustability and a larger capacity to hold work pieces. The design, spacing of the adjustment teeth and length of the slot provide more adjustment positions and allow more teeth to be engaged at all positions. In an example, the teeth are spaced at about 0.066 inches and the tool has a maximum jaw opening of about 2.28 inches.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2018Publication date: August 22, 2019Applicant: Snap-on IncorporatedInventors: Douglas A. Publication number: 20080243134Abstract: A tool for driving a workpiece during surgical procedures has a handle. A gear with teeth thereon is rotatably supported along an axis within the handle. Two pawls are pivotally supported by the handle adjacent the gear and are orbital about the axis upon rotation of the handle. Each pawl has teeth that engage the gear teeth to transmit torque from the handle to the workpiece. Two springs yieldingly urge the pawls into engagement the gear teeth. A cap, with an actuator thereon, is rotatable with respect to handle. The cap has a first position in which the actuator retracts the first pawl out of engagement with the gear teeth, a second position in which the actuator retracts the second pawl out of engagement with the gear teeth, and a third position in which neither the first pawl nor the second pawl is retracted by the actuator.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2007Publication date: October 2, 2008Inventors: Kurt P.
