  • Publication number: 20170295104
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may act as a relay device and receive a message from a source device. The message may include a latency indicator. The UE may identify a delay-tolerance metric associated with the message based on the latency indicator. The UE may identify, for each air interface of a set of air interfaces, a cost metric associated with transmitting the message. The UE may select an air interface from the set of air interfaces based on the delay-tolerance metric and the cost metric. The UE may transmit the message to a destination device on the selected air interface.

  • Patent number: 9756557
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for refining, e.g., reducing, a paging area corresponding to a user equipment device, e.g., a cellular inactive UE device. Various embodiments are well suited for communications systems in which user equipment devices participate in peer to peer communications networks in which direct user device to user device communications are employed. A user equipment device participating in a peer to peer network transmits discovery signals. A femto base station and/or a cellular active UE device in the local vicinity of the UE device transmitting the peer to peer discovery signal eavesdrops on the peer discovery signaling and detects the presence of the cellular inactive UE device. The detection of the cellular inactive UE device is reported to a MME. The MME determines a paging area corresponding to the detected UE device based on the reported information and the location of the reporting device.

  • Publication number: 20170214493
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for using wireless relays to create path diversity in rebroadcasting data in wireless networks with latency sensitive applications. A first wireless communication device receives a data signal, the data signal being transmitted on a first frequency resource from a second wireless communication device to a third wireless communication device. The first wireless communication device receives an ACK/NACK signal being transmitted from the third wireless communication device to the second wireless communication device. The first wireless communication device determines if the ACK/NACK signal is a NACK signal, and if so transmits the data signal at a second frequency resource during a third time period to the third wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20170208477
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device communicating critical or latency sensitive information may determine that a transmission has failed in a shared radio frequency (RF) spectrum band. The device may then transmit a silencing signal in a managed RF spectrum band, and switch to communicating in the managed band. Other wireless devices communicating with the first device may receive the silencing signal and may also switch to the managed RF spectrum band. Based on the silencing signal, user equipments (UEs) not associated with the critical communications and operating in the managed band may suspend transmissions, although they may still receive downlink (DL) data.

  • Publication number: 20170181127
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for using a monitoring application to measure channel state information during idle cycles in a mission-critical application. A first wireless communication device determines whether there is a mission-critical data packet to be transmitted to a second wireless communication device. If not, the first wireless communication device determines whether a monitoring packet should be transmitted to the second wireless communication device. If the first wireless communication device determines a monitoring packet should be sent, the first wireless communication devices transmits a monitoring packet containing an identifier and a reference signal to the second wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20170171885
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device communicating critical or latency sensitive information may determine that a clear channel assessment (CCA) has failed in a shared radio frequency (RF) spectrum band. The device may then transmit a silencing signal in a managed RF spectrum band, and switch to communicating in the managed band from transmitting in the shared band. Other wireless devices communicating with the first device may receive the silencing signal and may also switch to the managed RF spectrum band. Based on the silencing signal, user equipments (UEs) not associated with the critical communications, but also operating in the managed band, may suspend transmissions in the managed band (e.g., uplink (UL) data), although they may still receive transmissions in the managed band (e.g., downlink (DL) data).

  • Patent number: 9674776
Abstract: A communications system includes a plurality of different types of small coverage area base stations, e.g., femto cell base stations, WiFi access points and Bluetooth access points within a macro cell. Different user equipment (UE) devices, e.g., different smartphones, include different capabilities. In order for UE devices and small coverage area base stations with compatible capabilities to efficiently discover one another, the various small coverage area base stations and various UE devices utilize the macro cell communications band and macro cell communication protocol to coordinate device discovery and exchange discovery information and control information which allows a UE device to access a compatible small coverage area base station and subsequently communicate user data, e.g., traffic data, with the UE device.

  • Patent number: 9521675
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for improving communications of a machine type communications (MTC) device. In a method of communication, a signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) of one or more resource blocks (RBs) of a target device may be estimated by, for example, an MTC device. The MTC device may then select one or more of the RBs of the target device to be in a resource pool based at least in part on the estimated SINR. In some embodiments, the MTC device may compare the estimated SINR of the one or more RBs of the target device to a threshold SINR and select one or more RBs with an SINR less than the threshold SINR to be in the resource pool. In some embodiments, the MTC device may randomly select a resource block from the resource pool and transmit on the selected resource block.
