    Abstract: Structured packing for mass-exchange or energy-exchange processes uses a stack of parallel, flat sheets forming flat channels therebetween. A number of tabs extends between adjacent pairs of sheets to form both bridges for fluid flow and spacers for structural rigidity of the packing. Some of the tabs serve predominantly to divert fluid over the entire surface of a given sheet to prevent so-called channeling, while other tabs are disposed to predominantly enhance fluid transfer between the adjacent sheets. Fluid communication between both sides of each sheet is facilitated due to perforations caused by the manufacturing of the tabs. The design allows for the use of very thin sheets resulting in a light-weight packing assembly.

    Abstract: A switching system and a method for performing high-speed switching within a telecommunications system. One aspect of the present invention utilizes an internal host and a self learning routing algorithm to reduce the time required to identify an output channel for routing a communication. Thus, the overhead associated with querying an external database can be eliminated from the switching system allowing a switching system to reduce the call hold time, and thereby meet the call flow demands of the telecommunications system. Another aspect of the present invention is the use of a hashing algorithm in resolving routing decisions. The hashing algorithm operates on received DID numbers to identify an output channel for a received call. The hashing algorithm is able to accept any DID number as input. Therefore, this aspect of the present invention allows a switching system to quickly resolve routing decisions without requiring consecutive DID numbers.

    Abstract: A digital voltage protection circuit (138) and a phase monitor circuit (154, 160, 162, 168) disconnect AC-powered user equipment (22,182) from the AC power supply (141) whenever the AC power line voltage is outside a predetermined operating voltage window and when any two phases of the power supply (141) are separated by more than a predetermined phase angle. The user equipment (182) is automatically reconnected to the power supply (141) only after the power line voltage and phase remain continuously within operating range for a predetermined delay period. The voltage monitor (138) contains a digital comparator (18) that uses integrated circuit digital logic thresholds as reference voltages for setting upper and lower voltage window limits. The controller protects the user equipment from both over-voltage and under-voltage (brownout) conditions and from phase errors.

    Abstract: An ultrasound liquid level detector system for automatically controlling the dispensing of a post-mix beverage, including microprocessor-controlled circuitry for monitoring and implementing the automatic dispensing process. The microprocessor is interfaced with an ultrasonic transducer which transmits ultrasonic wave energy towards the container to be filled and receives reflected ultrasonic wave energy, the characteristics of which are analyzed within the microprocessor to implement control functions of the automatic dispensing process. Dispensing is initially stopped before the liquid level reaches the top of the container to allow for dissipation of foam on the top of a carbonated beverage and dispensing is reinitiated to top off the level of beverage adjacent the top of the container. The disclosed system also utilizes the ultrasonic transducer to measure the level of ice within the container prior to dispensing and precludes dispensing of the beverage if the level of ice exceeds a predetermined limit.
