  • Patent number: 12240047
Abstract: An apparatus in the form of an adapter for forming a connection comprising a first part adapted for coupling with a second part by a quick-release coupling formed by a first projection of the first part having an at least partial dovetail shape and a recess of the second part having an at least partial dovetail shape. An opening in the recess is adapted for receiving the projection in an axial direction. In other embodiments, the adapter is: (1) frictionally enhanced for engaging an internal portion of the drilling element; (2) includes a radial projection elongated in an axial direction for engaging the internal portion of the one drilling element; and/or (3) has a cutter for scoring an internal portion of the one drilling element upon being inserted therein and rotated. An adapter is also disclosed for use with a drill check, including for creating a “twist lock” connection.

  • Publication number: 20050224259
Abstract: A coupler for use in connecting together in a driving relationship a first member and a second member in a drill bit assembly. The coupler includes an elongate body that has opposite axial forward and rearward ends as well as contains a longitudinal bore. The elongate body further has a mediate collar wherein there is a forward body portion axial forward of the collar and a rearward body portion axial rearward of the collar. The forward body portion is suitable to drivingly engage the first member. The rearward body portion is suitable to drivingly engage the second member. Each one of the forward and rearward body portions carries seal. The elongate body further carries a retention member.

  • Patent number: 5529384
Abstract: A bit holder block is provided composed of a foot portion for being received in a seat of a rotary member and a bit holder portion for releasably holding a cutter bit with respect to a bit bore therein. The bit bore has a forward opening at a bit abutment face of the bit holder block. The cutter bit is provided with an annular abutment surface for abutting the bit abutment face. A bit retainer port is provided in the bit holder block located at, and communicates with, a rear opening of the bit bore for therein securing a retainer clip to an annular groove in the cutter bit. A rear segment of the bit holder block provides a strong reinforcing structure for the area around the rear opening of the bit bore which counters a fulcrum force generated at the rear opening of the bit bore, the fulcrum force arising during operation due to a resultant force acting on the cutter bit being directed below the axis of the cutter bit, rather than above it, as was previously believed in the art.
