  • Publication number: 20120321763
Abstract: A method of ensuring that meat has been adequately cooked to doneness, wherein a substrate, such as a foil, film, fabric, laminate, label, card, or paper, having a thermo-sensitive color-forming coating thereon, is placed onto meat pieces such that cooking causes the coating to change color at a predetermined temperate. Said color-forming coating is comprised of ingredients generally recognized as safe as food additives or as food colorants by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), or as materials FDA-approved for food contact.

  • Publication number: 20120214879
Abstract: A pH-modified luminescent composition and methods. In composition, a marker exhibiting luminescence change over a indicatory period. pH-based luminesce change may be in intensity or in wavelength. One embodiment provides a luminescent composition, including a selected luminescent marker having a first phase; and a selected ionizing agent comprising a second phase. The selected luminescent marker exhibits luminescence for an indicatory period responsive to intermixing of the first phase with the second phase. A selected antimicrobial agent combined with the first phase of the luminescent composition, wherein intermixing of the first phase with the second phase is at least a portion of a hand hygiene protocol.

  • Publication number: 20090237651
Abstract: A hand cleansing formulation in the form of a soap/disinfectant (liquid, foam, cream or powder) in solution contains a marker agent (e.g., fluorescent or phosphorescent agent(s)) aggregated with a non-marker binder material. By vigorously scrubbing the hands together, as required by a proper hand washing procedure, the aggregates are dissociated to allow the measurement of the fluorescence/phosphorescence intensity under an activation light source, i.e., UV, IR. This intensity measurement directly relates to the thoroughness of the hand scrubbing steps, thereby allowing the thoroughness of hand scrubbing during a hand washing event to be judged and monitored.

  • Publication number: 20080022888
Abstract: A ready to use skin marking stain/applicator for use in inhibiting voter fraud requiring only the addition of water, includes a open top container with a measured quantity of dry water soluble stain producing compound disposed therein. The compound, when dissolved in water, filling the container, is capable of reacting with the organic materials on the person's finger, to produce within a relatively short time, a semipermanent, highly visible, stain, on the finger. A substantially impermeable removable cover is secured over the open top of the container to inhibit the ingress of moisture into the container prior to its use.

  • Patent number: 6893488
Abstract: A printing compound suitable for recording unique surface characteristics of an object such as a person's finger, palm or foot, tire tread or shoe sole, on a porous medium such as paper, is composed of (1) a composition, e.g., printer's ink, capable of delineating such surface characteristics when transferred to the porous medium by itself or in conjunction with a separate reagent and (2) a sufficient amount of water dispersable nonionic surfactant to render the composition substantially soluble in water without adversely affecting the ability of the composition to delineate the surface characteristics when transferred to the porous medium.

  • Patent number: 6841188
Abstract: A method of developing latent fingerprints involves the preparation of an 8-quinolinol complex by mixing a solution of 8-hydroxyquinoline or a derivative with a complexing reagent such as a metal salt. The solution is then applied to a porous substrate, such as paper, containing the latent fingerprint where the soluble complex is adsorbed onto the surface of the latent print and precipitates thereon. The unadsorbed solution is then removed from the substrate allowing the precipitate to highlight the latent image. The choice of the complexing reagent will determine the color of the precipitate and whether or not it is flourescent.

  • Publication number: 20030175224
Abstract: A method for making a semipermanent mark on an individuals body comprises preparing a marking solution containing ninhydrin, preferably by mixing crystalline ninhydrin in water to provide a solution having a ninhydrin concentration of about 2% to 3% by weight and applying the resulting solution to a portion of the body such as a finger or thumb. A small quantity of a compatible dye, such as rhodamine, may also be added to the marking solution to produce an immediate, though less permanent, stain.

  • Patent number: 6488750
Abstract: An inkless fingerprint compound includes a solvent, a color former, such as a transistion metal salt, compatible with the solvent and a developer such as hydroxiquinoline and derivatives, the developer capable of reacting with the color former to form a colorant product, preferably black in color. A sufficient amount of a chelating agent, such as a carboxylic acid, is added to the solution to prevent the color former and developer from reacting while in solution to form the colorant product while permitting such reaction when the solution is applied to the fingerprint area of the person to be fingerprinted and deposited onto a paper substrate.
