Patent number: 6755551Abstract: A thin profile task light includes a housing having a longitudinally extending and downwardly opening window, an elongated lighting element located within the housing and including electrical connectors located at opposite ends thereof, and a plurality of electrical power sockets shaped to receive the opposite ends of the lighting element therein. The task light also includes a reflector located between the lighting element and the housing, a lens covering the window of the housing, and a power supply assembly that includes an electrical switch controlling the supply of electrical power to the lighting element, a ballast regulating the supply of electrical power to the lighting element, and a circuit board, wherein the electrical switch in the ballast mounted on the circuit board. The task light has an overall thickness of within the range of from about 0.5 inches to about 1.0 inches.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2002Date of Patent: June 29, 2004Assignee: Steelcase Development CorporationInventors: Armas D. Soorus, Daniel E. Waugh, Jeffrey T. Charon, Scott A. Williamson, Douglas D. Buyce

Patent number: 6554218Abstract: A cable management spool for storing a length of cable includes first and second rigid outer members that are movable relative to each other and define a gap of variable size therebetween. An intermediate member has at least one flexible flap, and the intermediate member is disposed between the first and second rigid outer members. The spool includes a spooling portion between the first and second outer members, wherein the spooling portion is adapted to have a length of cable wound about the spooling portion. The intermediate member is movable relative to at least one of the first and second rigid outer members, and the at least one flap substantially occupies the gap and is adapted to substantially conceal the length of cable.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2001Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: Steelcase Development CorporationInventors: Douglas D. Buyce, Joseph D. Ruedinger, Jason E. Begin

Patent number: 6386723Abstract: A tasklight includes a first elongated cover portion defining a first elongated side edge. A second elongated cover portion is connected to the first cover portion, and defines therewith a housing having a lower side. The second elongated cover portion defines a second elongated side edge, and the second side edge is spaced-apart from the first side edge to define an open space between the first and second side edges that extends along a rear side of said housing. An elongated light source is positioned proximate the lower side of the housing. A reflective surface on the lower side of the housing has a shape configured to distribute light produced by the light source forwardly onto the worksurface. The reflective surface forms a passageway with the open space of the housing, and permits heat produced by the light source to escape through the open space of the housing by convection.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1999Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: Steelcase Development CorporationInventors: David C.
