Patent number: 11777774Abstract: A method for transmitting a digital frame by an optical network unit in a digital communications network includes steps of arranging received data into a series of symbols, installing a primary cyclic prefix immediately preceding the series of symbols in time, and inserting individual ones of a plurality of secondary cyclic prefixes between each adjacent pair of symbols in the series of symbols. A length of each secondary cyclic prefix corresponds to a first duration shorter than an amount of time needed to turn on a laser of the optical network unit. The method further includes a step of providing to the optical network unit the digital frame. The digital frame includes the primary cyclic prefix, the plurality of secondary cyclic prefixes, and the series of symbols. The method further includes a step of modulating the provided digital frame by a laser of the optical network unit.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2022Date of Patent: October 3, 2023Assignee: Cable Television Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Douglas D. Jones, Luis Alberto Campos, Thomas Holtzman Williams

Publication number: 20200092034Abstract: A method for managing a control channel in a communication network includes (1) receiving, at a control subsystem, first status information from a network device, (2) comparing, at the control subsystem, the first status information to a first threshold condition, and (3) in response to the first status information meeting the first threshold condition, causing a first control channel in the communication network to move from a first location in radio-frequency spectrum to a second location in radio-frequency spectrum. Another method for managing a control channel in a communication network includes (1) receiving, at a control subsystem, a first signal from a network device, and (2) in response to receiving the first signal, causing a first control channel in the communication network to move from a first location in radio-frequency spectrum to a second location in radio-frequency spectrum.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2019Publication date: March 19, 2020Inventor: Douglas D. Patent number: 7763786Abstract: A stringed musical instrument has a head assembly, a tail, and an elongate neck extending from the head assembly to the tail. The neck defines a fingerboard having a surface layer and a substrate. The surface layer includes an exposed surface formed of sheet metal deformed to unitarily define a plurality of frets thereon. A plurality of strings extends from the head assembly along the neck and adjacent to the fingerboard. In another variation, the surface layer has an exposed surface unitarily defining frets thereon. Each fret forms a peak, and the surface layer defines a plurality of troughs separated by the peaks. Each trough has a single arcuate shape extending between each peak. A method of forming the stringed musical instrument is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2008Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Inventors: Donald B. Jones, Douglas D. Jones
