Publication number: 20060116908Abstract: An apparatus and method for generating a patient's medical record. The apparatus comprises a data input component that executes through a plurality of clinical, tree-like pathways that are traversed as data describing the patient's condition is entered, for example, by the physician during a clinical examination. At each node, the physician is prompted as to the additional health information required to traverse the clinical pathway. Once an end “leaf” is reached, the medical record is generated based on the path traversed through the clinical pathway. A web site stores the record for access via a web browser.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 7, 2006Publication date: June 1, 2006Inventors: Douglas Dew, Steven Halpern

Publication number: 20050171519Abstract: Apparatuses for controlling the surgical tissue heating process. An irrigation fluid pump provides both positive and negative pressure to allow the surgeon to accurately determine the condition of the tissue under both pressurized and non-pressurized states. The temperature of the irrigation fluid is monitored to ensure that the tissue is not overheated. The heating probe tip is supplied with a sleeve to control the heat profile during the surgery.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2005Publication date: August 4, 2005Inventor: Douglas Dew

Patent number: 4672969Abstract: The method and apparatus of the invention use laser emitted optical energy to effect wound closure and reconstruction of biological tissue. Optical energy is applied to produce thermal heating of biological tissue to a degree suitable for denaturing the tissue proteins such that the collagenous elements of the tissue form a "biological glue" to seal immediately and/or to reconstruct the tissue being heated. The collagenous glue is then reabsorbed by the body during the healing process. In a particularly advantageous method and apparatus, a Nd:YAG laser turned to 1.32 micrometers wavelength is used at low power levels to obtain deep tissue penetration with low thermal effect.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1983Date of Patent: June 16, 1987Assignee: Sonomo CorporationInventor: Douglas Dew
