  • Publication number: 20050127666
Abstract: A mechanical pipe coupling permitting relative axial, torsional and angular deflections between pipes joined together by the coupling is disclosed. Rings, each having a greater outer diameter than the pipe, are attached to each end of the pipes to be joined. Each ring has a circumferential groove that receives an O-ring seal. A band is positioned coaxially around the rings. The band has an inwardly facing surface that sealingly engages the O-rings. A housing is clamped around the rings and the band. The housing has rims radially extending in spaced relationship to the pipes but engage the pipes when they deflect to maintain a radial separation between the housing and the band, allowing the band to float on the O-rings and maintain a fluid tight seal. The housing has inwardly facing shoulders that engage the rings and limit the axial and angular displacement of the pipes within the housing.

  • Publication number: 20050096235
Abstract: A water-based, recyclable metalworking fluid comprises a polyalkylene glycol, an alkanolamine, a polyglycol surfactant, a polyol surfactant, a biocide and a corrosion inhibitor. The biocide may comprise a mixture of biocidal compounds effective against bacterial and fungal organisms. The material may also include an isoalkoxy amine oxide and a glycol ether. The composition may also include ancillary ingredients such as viscosity controlling agents, defoamers, coloring agents and the like. It is a notable feature of the composition of the present invention that it is free of hazardous materials and fatty acids. Also disclosed is a method for using the composition in a metal-shaping operation.

  • Publication number: 20050044924
Abstract: A jaw (39) for crimping a generally cylindrical compression sleeve (34) in a compression coupling is disclosed in, which at least two support members (39, 41) are adapted to support at least two arcuately shaped dies (24) for movement toward and away from each other for compressing the compression sleeve (34) about an inner concentric pipe or tube (36) to an inner arcuate die surface corresponding in shape and dimension to a predetermined outer surface portion of the compression sleeve so as to engage and compress the compression sleeve when positioned thereabout and moved toward each other. The dies (24) each have at least one crimping roller (30) rotatably mounted adjacent the die surface. The crimping roller (30) is adapted to form a crimp on the compression sleeve and the inner member to form a mechanical attachment therebetween. Various combinations of die/roller arrangements are disclosed to encircle and compress a sleeve/pipe combination to form a compression coupling.
