Patent number: 8484156Abstract: A method and system for exchanging at least one data value between a first device and at least one second device, including providing at least one data structure at the first device, the data structure including at least one descriptive field and an associated at least one data value field, the at least one data value field including the least one data value, the at least one descriptive field including a usage type field having usage type data to associate the at least one data value field with a data type, transmitting the at least one data structure from the first device to the at least one second device, and, based on at least the usage type data, at the at least one second device, extracting the at least one data value from the at least one data value field.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2009Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Robert M. Hancsarik, Douglas E. Humphrey

Patent number: 8430049Abstract: An apparatus for launching and recovering at least one water vehicle includes a frame supported by a base. The base may be mounted to the deck of a boat. The frame includes an elongate stand for supporting the water vehicle. The frame is mounted for being moved relative to the base between a stowed position and a deployed position, so that a rear end of the stand is at a lower elevation in the deployed position than in the stowed position. A guide is carried by the frame and adapted for being moved back and forth along the stand. The guide is for mechanically guiding the water vehicle along the stand.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2009Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Vehicle Control Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thomas F. Tureaud, Douglas E. Humphreys

Patent number: 8364331Abstract: An intercepting vehicle, which is being towed by a towing vehicle, may home in on and attach to a retrievable vehicle that catches up to the intercepting vehicle from behind. Then, the intercepting vehicle, with the retrievable vehicle docked thereto, may be brought to the towing vehicle by reeling in the intercepting vehicle with the retrievable vehicle docked thereto.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2012Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Vehicle Control Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thomas F. Tureaud, Daniel N. Dietz, Stacy J. Hills, Douglas E. Humphreys, Alexander V. Roup

Patent number: 8205570Abstract: An autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle (“AUV”) includes a body, a controller, a buoyancy engine, a rotary propulsion system and pitch control surface(s). The buoyancy engine is for alternately ingesting and expelling ambient water to change the mass of the AUV and thereby cause the AUV to alternately descend and ascend in the water. The pitch control surface(s) are for causing the AUV to move forward while alternately descending and ascending in the water. The rotary propulsion system includes a motor for rotating a propeller in the water to provide thrust. The controller is operative for responsively, automatically switching between at least the glider and rotary propulsion modes. In the glider mode, the buoyancy engine and the pitch control surface(s) are cooperative for causing the AUV to move forward while alternately descending and ascending. In the rotary propulsion mode, the rotary propulsion system is operative for causing the AUV to move forward.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2010Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Vehicle Control Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thomas F. Tureaud, Douglas E. Humphreys

Patent number: 7775174Abstract: An at least partially self-propelled vehicle is configured for being towed by a towing vehicle, by way of a tow line. Operation of the vehicles may be coordinated so that, for a length of the tow line that connects the vehicles, the length of the tow line is curved in a manner that inhibits the tow line from transferring oscillatory motion between the vehicles while the entirety of the length of the tow line may be under tension.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2008Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: Vehicle Control Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Douglas E. Publication number: 20020129116Abstract: The comprehensive global information network broadcasting system and implementation thereof is designed to be used to provide a plurality of, what is commonly referred to as, Internet service providers with updated information through the use of high speed satellite links directly to the local Internet service provider from a centralized location. The satellite broadcasting system is combined with servers known as caching or proxy servers located at the client site which serve to store web and other data until the end user needs to access the data and a master cache center which coordinates the selection and transmission of information to those client sites via the satellite broadcasting system. The caching of data objects as close to the end user as possible will require less data to transit the backbones networks.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 1999Publication date: September 12, 2002Inventor: DOUGLAS E.
