Abstract: A convenient to use test method for comparing the relative affinity of surfactants for the skin employs a solid or semisolid matrix for associating a dye or pigment with the skin. The dye or pigment has an affinity to either the skin or a surfactant adsorbed on the skin during personal cleansing. The matrix may include a reagent soluble polymer film or temporary tattoo.

Abstract: A test method is described for comparing the relative affinity of products for a target substance using a substrate ordinarily and visibly sensitive to the products. The test method is useful in one embodiment for comparing the ability of harsh cleansers to remove fatty acids from the skin with mild cleansers that do not remove fatty acids to the same extent using a visually compelling substrate such as a fresh cut flower.

Abstract: An ordered liquid crystalline phase cleansing composition is disclosed that is mild to the skin, contains entrained air and is characterized by excellent sensory and skin feel properties, flow properties and stability.
