  • Patent number: 10500487
Abstract: A virtual reality (VR) experience augmentation method includes: generating VR representations, each preprogrammed to simulate a virtual environment with virtually represented objects; associating stage kits with one or more of the representations, each kit having a modular stage and stage accessories, the modular stage marked to aid assembly; and building one of the kits, by: assembling the accessories to the stage according to the one of the kits by using coordinates identified by stage markings; and configuring a motion tracking system to track a VR participant's movements and movements of one of more of the stage accessories by communicating identity, location and/or orientation information to a VR simulation engine. Locations and orientations of the objects within the virtual environment correspond to locations and orientations of the stage accessories that are arranged according to the one of the kits.

  • Patent number: 10449443
Abstract: A virtual reality system includes a stage kit, a motion tracking system, and a VR engine. The kit corresponds to plans associated with VR representations, and includes fixed and moveable props that are represented in one or more of the representations. The kit has a stage including a marked platform with accessory mounts to affix the fixed props to the platform, and stage sections that are interconnected according to the markings to form said platform. The platform is configurable according to differently dimensioned plans. The motion tracking system generates tracking information corresponding to the props and a VR participant on the stage. The VR simulation engine receives the tracking information, and employs that tracking information to generate the VR representations that simulate a virtual environment with virtually represented objects corresponding to the props, where the props are arranged according to a corresponding stage plan.

  • Publication number: 20190220994
Abstract: A system is described for registering and calibrating physical props in a stage use to present virtual reality (VR) experiences to players. The system comprises a scanner, a machine-based registrar, a pre-programmed VR experience, and a calibrator. The scanner scans the stage to identify physical props and their placements and orientations. The machine-based registrar registers physical props captured by the scan. The pre-programmed VR representation has predetermined places where VR objects are located, or at least perceived to be located to a player wearing a VR headset. The calibrator provides the operator with an image of the physical props overlayed with the VR representation, and signals when a physical prop is not accurately positioned and oriented. The system allows stage assemblers to visualize, and easily correct, any deviation of the physical props' locations and orientations from the predetermined places set forth in the pre-programmed VR representation.

  • Publication number: 20190217189
Abstract: A virtual reality (VR) system is provided that mixes real-world tactile stimulation with audiovisual stimulation provided through VR headgear. The VR system uses three sets of components. The first set comprises mobile objects that are tracked using motion tracking LEDs. The second set comprises stationary objects that are tracked using wires connected to an I/O controller to a game server. The third set comprises objects that are not tracked at all, but which are depicted with a thematic rendering in the VR world. A grid is set up that provides discrete locations for setting up both stationary and mobile components. A VR game server serves constructs of a VR world having thematically-embellished virtual objects that appear to be located in positions and orientations that match the positions and orientations of the components of the first, second, and third sets.

  • Publication number: 20190213797
Abstract: A system is described for providing an enhanced virtual reality experience (VR) for players. The system comprises both fixed and mobile tracking systems, a merged reality processor, and VR engines. A plurality of cameras are mounted over and along a perimeter of a stage. The cameras track the players' movements and generate real-time positional data of each player on the stage. Player-mounted tracking systems produce data tracking movements of the players' arms, hands, and fingers. The merged reality processor compiles a most accurate set of tracking data from the positional data and the tracking data, wherein the merged reality processor detects whether the tracking data is ambiguous. The VR engines use the selected sets of data from the motion tracking system and the head-mounted tracking systems to generate realistic VR representations of the players' arms, hands, and fingers that correspond with the actual position of the players arms, hands, and fingers.

  • Publication number: 20190213798
Abstract: A system is described for providing an enhanced virtual reality experience (VR) for players. The system includes mobile tracking systems mounted on the players' headsets, a data processor, and a plurality of VR engines. The player-mounted tracking systems produce data tracking movements of the players' arms, hands, and/or fingers. But sometimes, the players' arms, hand, and/or fingers are obscured. The data processor detects when this occurs. When it does occur, the data processor selects a predefined gesture that can most appropriately be inferred from the data. The data processor blends the selected, predefined gesture with the tracking system data to enable generation of a VR representation of the player that most appropriately represents the player. Each player wears a VR engine that uses the blended data to represent the player's self as well as other players.
