  • Patent number: 5381464
Abstract: A method of establishing a telecommunications call connection in a cellular wireless system. If a mobile station is near the border between areas served by two mobile switching center (MSCs) then the mobile is paged from appropriate base stations of one of the MSCs while the other MSC is alerted to listen for page responses from the paged mobile station. Advantageously, the number of paging orders is substantially reduced thus increasing the call handling capacity of the base station systems. The second MSC is initialized to be prepared to process a page response from the mobile station being paged from the base stations of the first MSC. Advantageously, this permits straightforward recognition of a valid paging response and a record of the call with which that response is associated.

  • Patent number: 4577066
Abstract: Disclosed are schemes for selecting an interexchange telephone call carrier, selecting a route to the selected carrier, and establishing a call path on the selected route to the selected carrier in a multicarrier environment. To select a call route from a local telephone company switching office to a carrier switching office, first a route identifier is generated which comprises a set of keys to a data base for identifying therein a default route to the selected carrier. Then alternative sets of keys are obtained from data base by translating the class of service characteristics of the call and the called number. The set of keys identifying the default route is modified with those keys of the alternative key sets that are defined, to obtain alternative route identifiers, and the keys of the various route identifiers are modified by the carrier identification code.

  • Patent number: 4565903
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatuses for selecting an interexchange telephone call carrier, selecting a route to the selected carrier, and establishing a call path on the selected route to the selected carrier in a multi-carrier environment. To select a carrier, dialed digits incoming from a terminal link to a switching office are examined to determine if the call is of an interexchange type, requiring selection of a carrier. If so, the dialed digits are examined to determine if a carrier-identifying code has been dialed. If not, a data base is checked to determine if a carrier has been predesignated for this terminal link or for a group of Centrex terminal links of which this terminal link is a member. If not, and if an option of selecting a default carrier has been implemented, the data base is checked to determine if a default carrier may be used for calls originating with the calling terminal link or with the group of Centrex terminal links.
