Patent number: 8141628Abstract: A downhole deburring tool is equipped with retractable cutters which permit it to fit through restrictions in a wellbore—e.g., a subsurface safety valve—and subsequently expand to deburr or scrape a section of tubing having an internal diameter greater than that of the restriction. In one preferred embodiment, tapered surfaces on the tool act to effect retraction of the cutters during withdrawal of the tool from a wellbore. Deburring operations with the tool may increase the effectiveness of bridge plugs and/or ball sealer systems to permit chemical treatment of selected zones. Scraping operations with the tool to remove scale, corrosion and other material from the inner surface of a well tubular can increase the effective diameter of the tubing thereby allowing greater production.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2007Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Precision Energy Services, Inc.Inventor: Paul Douglas Hart

Publication number: 20080031513Abstract: A high-speed three-dimensional imaging system includes a single lens camera subsystem with an active imaging element and CCD element, and a correlation processing subsystem. The active imaging element can be a rotating aperture which allows adjustable non-equilateral spacing between defocused images to achieve greater depth of field and higher sub-pixel displacement accuracy. A speckle pattern is projected onto an object and images of the resulting pattern are acquired from multiple angles. The images are locally cross-correlated using a sparse array image correlation technique and the surface is resolved by using relative camera position information to calculate the three-dimensional coordinates of each locally correlated region. Increased resolution and accuracy are provided by recursively correlating the images down to the level of individual points of light and using the Gaussian nature of the projected speckle pattern to determine subpixel displacement between images.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2007Publication date: February 7, 2008Applicant: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventor: Douglas Hart

Publication number: 20080013943Abstract: A three-dimensional imaging system uses a single primary optical lens along with various configurations of apertures, refocusing facilities, and the like to obtain three offset optical channels each of which can be separately captured with an optical sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2006Publication date: January 17, 2008Inventors: Janos Rohaly, Douglas Hart, Thomas Brukilacchio
-
Publication number: 20070075997Abstract: Accuracy of a three-dimensional imaging system is improved through the use of model-based calibration and lookup tables to resolve distance according to, e.g., x-displacement, y-displacement, or image disparity data. In an embodiment, the lookup table(s) stores localized parameterization data used to calculate calibrated results.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 22, 2006Publication date: April 5, 2007Inventors: Janos Rohaly, Douglas Hart, Tong Zhang

Publication number: 20040122560Abstract: There is provided an internet-based method of controlling a mechanical system to which a resource such as energy or water is fed along at least one conduit The resource is consumed variably with respect 1o time and ambient conditions, whereby as the performance of the system changes, the pattern of consumption is altered. The method includes a) monitoring the pattern of consumption of the resource and ambient conditions, using the internet, b) through analysts of the pattern of resource use with respect to time at a central server, determining when a significant performance deficiency occurs; and c) altering the performance of the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2001Publication date: June 24, 2004Inventor: Douglas Hart
