  • Patent number: 7947128
Abstract: In one embodiment the present invention provides for a method for depositing a thin film layer onto a composite tape 16, that comprises depositing at least one thin film layer of physically enhancing material 30 onto at least one portion of the composite tape. The depositing is accomplished by atomic layer epitaxy and the thin film layer is approximately 1-10 molecules thick.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 28, 2007
Date of Patent: May 24, 2011
    Assignee: Siemens Energy, Inc.
    Inventor: Douglas J. Conley
  • Patent number: 7705243
Abstract: A conformable layer (14) for inhibiting electrical discharge between vent tubes (16) and strands (12) in an inner-cooled coil (5). The conformable layer comprises a resistive inner core (24) and a conductive strip (20) wrapped in a conductive outer wrap (26). The conductive strip (20) is electrically connected to the strands (12) at one end of the coil (5) and left to electrically float at the other end. In this configuration, the conformable layer (14) reduces voltage buildup between the vent tubes (16) and the strands (12) to help prevent electrical damage to the coil (5).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 22, 2008
Date of Patent: April 27, 2010
    Assignee: Siemens Energy, Inc.
Inventors: Franklin T. Emery, Douglas J. Conley, James F. Lau

  • Patent number: 5882471
Abstract: An envelope for retreading tires includes a valve which does not require the use of wicking material or other additions between the valve and the tire tread. This is accomplished by providing grooves in the bottom surface of the base of the valve, providing a flat ring surrounding the central hole on the bottom surface of the base of the valve, and providing internal passages from the grooves to the central hole. The valve base and stem are preferably made from two pieces which are joined together.

  • Patent number: 5275882
Abstract: Thermoplastic substrates, particularly those comprising polycarbonate, ABS or polycarbonate-ABS blends, are coated with an adherent aluminum coating having a thickness of at least about 1.5 microns by a process which includes fluorination of the surface followed by physical vapor deposition of aluminum. Fluorination is preferably effected by treatment with a plasma of a fluorine compound, especially a fluorocarbon such as carbon tetrafluoride.

  • Patent number: 5156882
Abstract: A method of preparing transparent plastic articles having an improved protective stratum thereon. The protective stratum provides protection from UV light and abrasion. The article includes a polycarbonate substrate and multi-layered coating applied by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition on surface of the substrate.
