  • Patent number: 6474003
Abstract: A footbed system is disclosed which includes at least one sole pad and at least two heel cups. Each heel cup including a base and a side wall extending from the base on the medial and lateral sides thereof. The volume of the side walls of each heel cup is varied to accommodate different width heels of users. The volume is modified by changing the height and/or thickness of the heel cup side walls. A cushion is coupled to the lower surface of the sole pad in a forefoot region and a damper is coupled to the lower surface of the sole pad in a heel region. The sole pad is detachably connectable to the heel cup that best accommodates the user's heel width.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 28, 2001
Date of Patent: November 5, 2002
    Assignee: Acushnet Company
Inventors: John J. Erickson, Douglas K. Robinson

  • Patent number: 6179879
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a tanned leather product that is impregnated with a plurality of microspheres containing a temperature stabilizing material. The present invention is also directed to a tanning process for embedding the microspheres into the leather. The thermal stabilizing material is a phase change material that allows the leather to have enhanced thermal properties when exposed to heat or cold.

  • Patent number: 5979083
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a two-layer outsole for use with a shoe. The outsole includes an outer layer, an inner layer, and a longitudinally extending axis. The outer layer forms the bottom of the outsole and has a plurality of first holes at spaced locations therethrough. The inner layer includes a base adjacent one side of the outer layer and a plurality of projections that extend from the base through the first holes in the outer layer, and terminate in a pointed free end. The projections protrude from the bottom of the outsole, and provide traction when the outsole interacts with the ground. The free end also forms a ridge. The ridge of each projection is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis. In one embodiment, each projection has an outline with a tear-drop shape. It has been found that when projections with this configuration are used with non-metal cleats, excellent traction is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4295727
Abstract: This invention is directed to a new apparatus to assist in the making of negatives. If the negatives are screen separation negatives, then the screen separation negatives can be used in the making of printing plates. For colored prints there are a plurality of screen separation negatives and a plurality of printing plates. With this apparatus it is possible to develop a screen separation negative to realize a predetermined dot structure. As a result, in a plurality of screen separation negatives there is a more uniform dot structure. With a more uniform dot structure in the screen separation negative there is a more uniform dot structure in the printing plate and therefore a more uniform printed color print. The apparatus indicates when the dot structure, viz., opaque area and clear area, on the developing screen separation negative reaches a predetermined standard for dot structure or a predetermined standard of transparency to light.
