Patent number: 8376570Abstract: A portable illumination system comprising distal and proximal members rotatably coupled to one another. The rotatable coupling between the members includes resistive rotational feedback across a plurality of independent rotational regions between the members. A rotational switching mechanism is configured to switch between an activated state and a deactivated state. The activated state includes an electrical coupling between an electrical power source and an electro-optical output device across a plurality of independent rotational regions between the members. The plurality of independent rotational regions of the activated state corresponds to a linear or lengthwise alignment between the distal activated indicator and the activated proximal indicator. The plurality of independent rotational regions of the resistive rotational feedback may be coordinated with the plurality of independent rotational regions of the activated state.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2009Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: Tactical Lighting Solutions, LLCInventors: Douglas Kennedy, Greg Kennedy

Patent number: 8002430Abstract: One embodiment relates to a portable article illumination system with an enclosure disposed between openings in the interior and external surfaces of a portable article. A removable illumination device may be disposed within the enclosure such as a selectably engageable portable lighting device. The interior and exterior openings may each be substantially covered by transparent and opaque members respectively. The transparent members cover the interior and exterior openings and are disposed proximal to the enclosure with respect to the opaque members. The transparent members may further provide optical pathways between the enclosure and the interior and/or exterior region. The opaque members substantially cover the transparent members thereby optically obstructing the optical pathways which extend from the enclosure through the corresponding transparent member to the interior or exterior region.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2009Date of Patent: August 23, 2011Assignee: Tactical Lighting Solutions, LLCInventors: Greg Kennedy, Douglas Kennedy

Patent number: 7708429Abstract: The present invention relates to an illuminated document display system. One embodiment of the present invention relates to a portable document display case configured to house at least one document for discrete illuminated visual viewing. The display case further includes an illumination system, a document protection system, and a storage system. The illumination system is configured to house an illumination device in a manner that facilitates visually receiving information from a document while minimizing external non-document light transmission. The document protection system provides a receptacle to protectively house a document while maintaining the ability for a user to view the document. In addition, the document protection system is configured to enable the illumination system to transmit light upon the document. The storage system enables the illumination system and document display system to be manipulated in a manner to provide for convenient storage without damaging the document.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2006Date of Patent: May 4, 2010Inventors: Gregory Kennedy, Douglas Kennedy

Publication number: 20080043468Abstract: The present invention relates to a discrete optical correlation system. One embodiment of the present invention includes a portable electrical illumination system and an optically opaque hollow module, configured to releasably couple to the portable electrical illumination system in a manner such that when the portable electrical illumination system is activated, the system produces a discrete correlated or focused illumination output. The portable electrical illumination system further includes a light emitting diode, a power source, a switch, and a coupling mechanism. The optically opaque hollow module further includes at least two openings, a hollow internal region, an optically opaque outer surface, and a coupling mechanism disposed on at least one of the at least two openings. A fourth embodiment relates creating an adjustable aperture between two optically opaque sleeves sliding over an optically transparent module coupled to the portable electrical illumination system.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventors: Douglas Kennedy, Gregory Kennedy

Publication number: 20080032191Abstract: The present invention relates to a protected and portable battery storage system and method of use. One embodiment relates a portable battery storage system, including a plurality of batteries and a plurality of sealed pouches. The batteries are shaped in a coin or disc configuration. The sealed pouches are interconnected to one another in a strip configuration. The batteries are positioned within a non-conductive internal region of each sealed pouch that protects them from damage and incidental short-circuiting. The non-conductive internal regions of the sealed pouches are sealed air-tight from the exterior via a lamination closure. The sealed pouches further include an individual opening system to allow a user to open a single sealed pouch for removal of the corresponding battery. One particular opening system includes a notch to facilitate hand-tearing of the sealed pouch. An alternative opening system includes utilizing a resealable opening system such as a ZIPLOC closure.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2006Publication date: February 7, 2008Inventors: Gregory Kennedy, Douglas Kennedy
