  • Patent number: 7017568
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to crossbow bowstring drawing mechanisms, also called cocking mechanisms in the art. More particularly, the present invention relates to a crossbow bowstring drawing mechanism that is integrated into a crossbow. The mechanism primarily consists of a pneumatically actuated piston and cylinder assembly, a compressed gas dispenser, and a string pick up arm. An after-the-fact bolt-on kit is also intended to be within the scope of this application allowing retrofit to existing bows not currently outfitted with this cocking feature. The bowstring cocking mechanism may utilize an internal power source such as compressed carbon dioxide (CO2) cartridge, or a plurality of cartridges to actuate the pneumatics that are part of the cocking mechanism on demand. Such actuation draws a bowstring from the un-cocked position to the cocked position.

  • Publication number: 20040073000
Abstract: A series of genes from Neisseria meningitidis are shown to encode products which are targets for immunisation. The identification of these genes therefore allows vaccines to be produced and other therapeutic products.

  • Publication number: 20020075826
Abstract: An interface between a data terminal and a digital communications link implements protocols and frame formats designed to reduce delays in a data communication with a remote terminal. The interface overcomes the need to send or receive an HDLC SABME or UA control signal, and allows data to be sent over the digital communications link as soon as the communication parameters are established. In a non-ARQ (error correction) mode, the interface sends control signals and data over the communications link in frames subdivided into many small subframes of fixed length, each subframe having a length code. The interface, when arranged for connection to the data terminal through a telephone network, encodes call progress signals from the telephone network for sending over the digital communications link. The interface encodes and decodes interrupt signals for sending between the data terminal and the digital communications link when an interrupt signal is detected.

  • Patent number: 6278696
Abstract: An interface between a data terminal and a digital communications link implements protocols and frame formats designed to reduce delays in a data communication with a remote terminal. The interface overcomes the need to send or receive an HDLC SABME or UA control signal for establishing an asynchronous balanced mode, and allows data to be sent over the digital communications link as soon as the communication parameters are established. In a non-ARQ (error correction) mode, the interface sends control signals and data over the communications link in frames subdivided into many small subframes of fixed length, each subframe having a length code indicating an amount of valid information but without CRC, address or control information. The interface, when arranged for connection to the data terminal through a telephone network, encodes call progress signals from the telephone network for sending over the digital communications link.

  • Patent number: 5877871
Abstract: A facsimile interface apparatus (12) is connected between facsimile terminals (10, 24) communicating via a satellite (16). The interface apparatus converts a conventional facsimile signal (66, 68) to a signal (70, 72, 74) suitable for transmission to the satellite (16). However, the interface apparatus and the satellite may incur a long delay such that the calling facsimile terminal (10) repeats a transmitted signal while the response to that signal is being received over the satellite (16). To overcome this problem, the facsimile interface apparatus (12) connected to the calling terminal (10) sends, after a period t1, a holding signal (90) to the calling terminal (10), to prevent the calling terminal from repeating the transmitted signal (66, 68). After a further period t2, the interface apparatus (12) sends a command repeat signal (93) to the calling terminal (10), so that the transmitted signal (66, 68) is repeated if the called terminal (24) has not transmitted a response.
