    Abstract: A medical device can include a therapy circuit configured to provide a specified electrostimulation therapy to a tissue site, the specified electrostimulation therapy including a scheduled completion, the therapy circuit including a protection circuit configured to adjust specification of the electrostimulation therapy being provided so as to provide an adjusted electrostimulation therapy before the scheduled completion. The medical device can include a monitoring circuit comprising a comparator. The monitoring circuit can be configured to trigger the protection circuit to inhibit the therapy circuit when the therapy circuit output parameter exceeds the specified threshold as indicated by the comparator.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to an apparatus and a method for generating a fault detection signal when a differential signal is in a fault condition. The fault condition arises when the data transmission path in a differential signaling device is either open, shorted, or terminated by an abnormal means, and is such that the inputs are within the valid common-mode range and a valid differential signal cannot be obtained. The invention is buffered from the differential signal source, and an intermediate signal is produced in response to the differential signal. Portions of the intermediate signal are compared to a reference signal, and based on the comparisons, fault condition control signals are produced. A fault detection signal is produced when two fault condition control signals indicate the presence of a fault. The fault detection signal is made available for invocation of a failsafe state.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting an open circuit fault condition in a differential signal, and generating a fault detection signal. An open circuit fault condition is detected by employing weak current sources to pull the differential signal paths outside the valid ac common-mode range and toward the supply rails. If both signal paths can be pulled within a predetermined proximity to the supply rails by their respective weak current sources, an open condition fault is defined to exist and a fault detection signal is generated. The fault detection signal can be used by another device to report the fault condition.
