  • Publication number: 20160160728
Abstract: Various embodiments provide for apparatuses and systems involving a reactor pipe configured to receive reductant from an injector into a flow of exhaust exiting an engine. The reactor pipe comprises an inlet portion, a plurality of louvers, an outlet portion, and a radial loop. The inlet portion is structured to receive the flow exiting the engine into the reactor pipe. The louvers are structured to alter a direction of the flow. Further, the radial loop is configured to extend between the inlet portion and the outlet portion and receives the flow of exhaust through the inlet portion. The radial loop also directs the flow of the exhaust toward the outlet portion and reduces the velocity of the flow of the exhaust such that the reductant has an increased amount of time to react with the exhaust.

  • Publication number: 20160131010
Abstract: An exhaust gas treatment system for an internal combustion engine may have a reductant delivery system that delivers reductant to an exhaust stream in an exhaust aftertreatment system. A temperature sensor may be positioned in or near the flow of reductant and exhaust to measure the temperature of the reductant and exhaust. A change in temperature over time, such as an increase, decrease, or change in variation amplitude, may indicate the presence of a reductant deposit in the system. Detection of the deposit may initiate a regeneration cycle in which the operating characteristics of the system change to eliminate the reductant deposit to prevent it from hindering the performance of the exhaust aftertreatment system.

  • Publication number: 20160090887
Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a selective catalytic reduction system for treating exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine. The system includes an inlet section that receives exhaust gases from the engine. The system includes a tank storing diesel exhaust fluid (“DEF”), a pump, a valve, and an injector each in fluid communication with each other. The injector is coupled to the inlet exhaust pipe and configured to inject DEF into the exhaust gases flowing through the inlet exhaust pipe in a plurality of pulses. Each of the plurality of pulses injects a constant volume of DEF into the inlet exhaust pipe. The system further includes a controller configured to operate the pump and the valve such that a time interval between successive constant volume pulses of the plurality of pulses is varied based on a variable oxides of nitrogen content of the exhaust gases.

  • Publication number: 20150361849
Abstract: An exhaust assisted pipe assembly including an outer portion having an opening for receiving dosed reductant from a dosing module and an inner portion disposed within the outer portion. The inner portion defines a main flow path for receiving a first portion of a fluid from an upstream source, and the inner portion and the outer portion cooperatively define a first flow path and a second flow path. The first flow path is configured to direct a second portion of the fluid from the upstream source past the opening for receiving dosed reductant and into the main flow path to increase momentum of the dosed reductant into the main flow path. The second flow path is configured to direct a third portion of the fluid from the upstream source toward the dosed reductant to decrease the momentum of the dosed reductant in the main flow path.

  • Publication number: 20150140252
Abstract: A variable interlayer laminate panel can include resin material derived from other resin panels, enabling use of waste trimmings from the manufacture of the other resin panels. Implementations therefore enable manufacturers to produce high-fashion but waste conscious resin panels that have a high degree of recycled content. In one implementation, a manufacturer forms a laminate panel by positioning a plurality of independent resin portions over a first resin substrate, and then by positioning a second resin substrate over the resin portions. The resin portions comprise embedded decorative elements, and at least two different resin portions comprise different types of decorative elements. The manufacturer then forms the laminate panel through the application of pressure and heat. The resulting panel has a variable interlayer formed from the independent resin portions. The laminate panel is usable as part of a panel system.
