Patent number: 7103560Abstract: A system and method for forecasting future retail performance are described herein. The system includes a storage device that stores a sales history database, a weather history database, and a weather forecast database. An analyzer determines the extent to which past retail performance of a plurality of products at a plurality of locations was affected by weather using the sales history database and the weather history database. A configurator, coupled to the analyzer, estimates expected future retail performance of the products at the stores for a plurality of future time periods using the weather forecast database and results produced by the analyzer. A graphical user interface, coupled to the analyzer and the configurator, enables users to view and manipulate results produced by the analyzer and the configurator to thereby forecast future retail performance of the products at the locations.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Planalytics, Inc.Inventors: Frederic D. Fox, Douglas R. Pearson, Diane Caine, Steven Mann, Ron M. Shapiro, Harve C. Light, Suzzane M. Rodriguez

Patent number: 7080018Abstract: A system and method that allows for weather-based planning of future activities and/or events, and the like. The system includes weather forecast, weather history, activities, advertisement and external information source databases. Also included in the system is a central processing planning server that is accessible via a plurality of internal and external workstations. The workstations provide a graphical user interface for users to enter a series of inputs and receive information (i.e., output) concerning weather-based information. The method involves collecting the series of inputs—geographic location(s), time period(s), and preferred weather pattern(s)—affecting a future event.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2000Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: Planalytics, Inc.Inventors: Frederic D. Fox, Douglas R. Pearson

Patent number: 6433259Abstract: An inbred maize line, designated PH3HH, the plants and seeds of inbred maize line PH3HH, methods for producing a maize plant, either inbred or hybrid, produced by crossing the inbred maize line PH3HH with itself or with another maize plant, and hybrid maize seeds and plants produced by crossing the inbred line PH3HH with another maize line or plant and to methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic maize plants produced by that method. This invention also relates to inbred maize lines derived from inbred maize line PH3HH, to methods for producing other inbred maize lines derived from inbred maize line PH3HH and to the inbred maize lines derived by the use of those methods.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.Inventor: Douglas R Pearson

Patent number: 5796932Abstract: The present invention is a graphical user interface (GUI) for use in an Executive Information System (EIS) for managerial planning applications that experience long-range weather impact. The EIS is referred to as a Long-range Executive Weather Information System (LEWIS.TM.). In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the LEWIS.TM. system is used to calculate and display to a user the impact of weather on retail planning applications. However, the present invention applies to all industries beyond retailing that experience weather impact, including, but not limited to, personal care, utilities, energy, agriculture, consumer products, insurance, transportation, outdoor events, chemicals, pharmaceutical, and construction.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1995Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Assignee: Strategic Weather ServicesInventors: Frederick D. Fox, Douglas R. Pearson, Diane Caine, Andrew Kenney, Richard A. Morris, Steve A. Beck, Cathy J. Beck, Robert J. Chu

Patent number: 5521813Abstract: A computer-based system and method which incorporates long-range weather forecasts in a predictive model which quantifies historical weather impact relationships between datasets, and uses the long-range weather forecasts to predict future weather impact on managerial plans. The predictive model can use multiple regression or a neural network. In a retail application, the computer-based system and method has a weather impact predictive model based on correlations of historical weather and point-of-sale store transactions data. The weather impact model is coupled with long-range weather forecasts to adjust managerial plans for buying, distribution, financial budgeting, promotional and advertising applications. A graphical user interface provides easy assimilation of analysis for specific managerial planning applications.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1993Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Strategic Weather ServicesInventors: Frederic D. Fox, Richard J. Fox, Michael A. Rhoads, Douglas R. Pearson, William R. Young

Patent number: 5491629Abstract: A computer-based Executive Information System (EIS) system for determining the impact of weather and other external and internal factors on the retail industry. Utilizing a multiple regression correlation technique in a predictive model, a correlation of weather variables with store information for specific locations and times is performed to quantify a weather impact model in terms of unit or dollar sales volume change, or any other commercially useful benchmark. The EIS system determines these relationships with location and time specificity. Using the relationship between historical weather and historical sales, the EIS system "deweatherizes" the historical weather to create a normalized historical sales relative to weather based upon normal weather (the 30 year average). This deweatherized data may be used in conjunction with a user-provided managerial plan to produce a revised managerial plan.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1994Date of Patent: February 13, 1996Assignee: Strategic Weather ServicesInventors: Frederick D.
