  • Patent number: 7845900
Abstract: A discharge region of a centrifugal compressor is provided. A scroll casing is asymmetrically formed in a circumferential direction and configured to be positioned in different angular positions in the circumferential direction. A vaned diffuser is configured to be positioned in different angular positions in the circumferential direction. The vaned diffuser includes a plurality of guide elements configured to be arranged in a distributed manner in the circumferential direction. Means are provided for positioning the vaned diffuser with regard to an angular position of the asymmetrically formed scroll casing. An angular spacing of two guide elements which are arranged adjacently to each other differs from an angular spacing of two other guide elements which are arranged adjacently to each other. By varying the angular spacings between two adjacent guide vanes of a diffuser along the circumference, the resonance vibration of the compressor can be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20100122248
Abstract: While current solutions for cloning virtual machines can involve copying and duplicating files associated to a virtual machine (VM), systems and techniques can be devised to create thin clones of a VM using the VM's associated storage system to copy and deduplicate storage for the VMs. One can create a base VM in a directory of a storage container attached to a hypervisor, and then map the storage container to a volume on a storage system. One can clone the base VM using a snapshot of respective files associated to the base VM, which can comprise creating metadata that identified a physical storage location of the files. Further, the metadata can then be copied to a desired location on the storage container, to create a VM clone. Once copied, the cloned VM can be customized and registered within the hypervisor.

  • Publication number: 20080060224
Abstract: Active-response golf shoes are disclosed. The golf shoes include at least one sensor, a controller, and at least one active-response element. The sensor and controller operate to rapidly determine if a golfer is walking or swinging a golf club. Once this determination is made the controller and active-response element rapidly change the shoe's characteristics. If the controller determines that the golfer is walking, the shoe provides a soft and flexible walking platform. If the controller determines that the golfer is swinging, the shoe morphs or changes automatically to provide a stable hitting platform. The controller senses various predetermined conditions such as pressure under the ball of the user's foot to determine whether the golfer is walking or swinging. The active-response elements may be a sole adjuster, a lace adjuster, and/or an upper adjuster. Methods of determining the golfer's type of movement are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070178468
Abstract: The present invention relates to pleomorphic cells (“morphotes”), which exhibit morphologic and genetic characteristics of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including resemblance to prokaryotic cells at the unicellular level, and resemblance to eukaryotic cells at the multicellular level due to their ability to self-organize in vitro into multicellular, mammalian tissue-like patterns consisting of tissue-like sheets, capillary-like networks, and trabecular (spongy) bone-like structures. Morphotes have a number of applications in the diagnostic medical, therapeutic medical, biological, biomaterials, bionanotechnological, and industrial fields.
